Book of Mormon Chronology: Jaredite Timeline

Timeline Chronology for the Jaredite culture from the Book of Ether in the Book of Mormon. See link for general Bible timeline.

The Book of Mormon Jaredite King List gives only 7 exact dates (lifespans and reigns) for the Jaredite Chronology. The only real markers we have to build a working chronology from are firstly, the date of the “dearth” or famine and megafauna extinction given in the narrative of Heth Ether 9:30–34. It’s important to note that it’s well established that Mastodons and other megafauna went extinct in most of continental North America at about 11-8,000 BC and the paleoindians role in killing them off and eating them amidst a major climate event (as explained in Ether 9:30–34) is well documented in the archaeological record, so we must consider the possibility that if radiocarbon dates are not off (which they certainly may be for that period), or unless completely unattested populations of elephants and other megafauna lived to the 4.2 ka event (a massive drought radiocarbon dated to 2200 BC) then there is likely a large unknown break of thousands of years between the Jared to Heth, and the rest of the Jaredite Book of Mormon timeline.

Secondly, the last Jaredite date which can be placed somewhere between ~570 BC when the Lehite/Mulekite migrants arrived and ~180 BC when the move to Zarahemla took place. As with most “King Lists” found in the old world, the list suggests a direct father to son succession, even though large breaks in time are almost positively present. Comparison with Egyptian, Sumerian and Babylonian King Lists in the Old World suggests this practice of mistakenly inferring direct succession was common, as later rulers wished to prove political legitimacy based on genealogy. All dates and ages are complete conjecture and are based upon the notes and the handful of exact dates (about 7) marked in underlined bold. Jared is said to have lived during the time of the Bible’s Tower of Babel which a literal Biblical timeline puts very close to the time of Abraham. However, Babylonian and Akkadian records suggest that this event was a common aspect of mythical records as early as 4000 BC (radiocarbon dated histories anyway).

If we are to believe radiocarbon dates, and the Book of Mormon’s Ether account of Jaredite people’s pursuing and “eating all” (Ether 9:34) of the Mammoths, Mastodons and megafauna dying off in the “dearth” (presumably the Younger Dryas, Ether 9:30), then we should suggest the true date to whatever event actually spawned the Babel myth occurred sometime around C14 date of 14,000 BC. (Which actually matches fairly well for radiocarbon dated ruins of Jericho and Göbekli Tepe). The last Jaredite historian, Coriantumr lived sometime just before the time of King Mosiah in the Book of Mormon.  See the genealogical table correlation chart to see agreement between this timeline and other biblical internal genealogies.

All dates not in bold are guessed using inferred ages and numbers approximately matching the ages and dates of corresponding figures in the bible timeline.

-Note Noah dies 350 years after the flood, around 1994 BC–Thus contemporary with Abraham. The Book of Jasher has Abraham being trained under Noah & Shem (who LDS accounts equate with Melkezidek). It also gives Abraham as a contemporary with Nimrod & the Tower of Babel who it places around the time of Peleg’s birth, adding meaning to the phrase “in his days was the earth divided”. These details may be substantiated in the LDS Jaredite record, give the length of ages & ‘dearth’ likely equating with Moses and the children of Israel having to live off of mana because of the destructions. (note also the correlation of fiery serpents in both accounts.) Coriantum lives to an age of 142 (Ether 9:24), which isn’t reached until JACOB in the descending ages of the bible after the flood–so it seems possible that Coriantum was born about the same time as Jacob or a few generations later (see Gen 7:6,11 8:17 9:28).

-The reason behind the date for Coriantumr is that when the people of Lemhi sent a group out to find Zarahemla, and yet they overshot and found a land “covered with bones” and brought back the 24 plates.  Well unburied bones disintegrate in a hundred years or so unless its very arid.  Thus they must have found the land within a hundred years of when the battles occurred (Mosiah 21:25–28).

-We know it happened a while before King Mosiah I, since the Mulekites brought the stone with the record of Coriantumr staying with them at that time..and spoke of it like it was a while back (Omni 1:20–22).    This was some time before 130 BC.

King Limhi’s group went north about 121 B.C.

So perhaps around 130-250 BC.  Or perhaps not. Placing absolute dates on the Jaredite chronology is largely conjecture.

Needed Reformation in the LDS Church- A Rant

Introduction

With both religion and politics in order to create a group that can really make a difference in the world (or as I presume be exalted in the next life), it is often more important to be unified than to be “right” or perfect according to some subjective standard.  Unity should be the ultimate goal, and wisdom, love and power exercised within the framework of free-agency are foundations upon which we build toward that goal. According to numerous scriptural sources, this is actually what allows people after death to raise to higher more blissful levels of heaven. I think perhaps the religious term “eternal life” is even referring to a similar idea that the primary goal of all religious organizations (like those on earth) is to create groups which progress eternally without being destroyed by division, apostasy and revolution. So in that light, I don’t say the following things to be divisive, but instead I say them as things which I believe may eventually need to be addressed in the LDS church if we are to minimize the inevitable division these doctrines and traditions cause, and avoid suffering the same fate as Israel, the primitive church and every earthly religion in recorded history. Reading through LDS blogs and Forums, I see way too much division; way too many people leaving the Church with very ill feelings usually because of misapplication of the following principles by active LDS members and leaders.

reformation

The Catholic Church eventually implemented nearly all of Luther’s 95 Theses reforms, because it eventually became self evident to all that he was just one of many, and such reforms were needed to keep the Church sustainable. Had they done it earlier, it might have avoided a lot of division and even war.

What the Church Does Right

Before I delineate many of the things I think the Church does to cause unneeded division, I want keep things positive by hitting on some of the things the Church does really well. My experience is that the LDS Church is full of people who are trying to be selfless. I think that on a local level the Church is often irreproachable (aside from inevitable interpersonal relationship difficulties). Every person and ward are different, but for the most part most people in the Church are doing their best to fulfill callings that serve others with little to no reward. This increases the level of love and selflessness of people in general which is the key to unity. The churches uniformity and government structure are highly organized and effective. The organizational structure and oversight programs match time-tested political and organizational structures.  The Church promotes many, many doctrines which are supported by many non-LDS witnesses of the restorationism movement, as being true and beneficial to humanity.  The active growth of the Church encourages people to turn to God and seek personal revelation as they question their culturally ingrained biases and traditions which have become “dead” or void of power to help people progress psychologically and spiritually. Local ward units work hard to help the youth avoid some of the pain and selfishness which are often a product of substance abuse and flagrant promiscuity or immorality (although the way this is done often causes division and selfishness too).  In general I think the church is doing a lot of good in the world, but as I will explain I think there are a lot of things that we could obviously do better.

The Purpose of our Religion

In order to really make judgements concerning best practices in religion one needs to know the purpose and goals of religion. Knowing the purpose of our religion is like knowing the purpose of our individual lives. Its a difficult and deeply personal type of knowledge, but once you really can answer this question, your life has purpose and meaning. In my personal quest for answers to this question I have been given answers, parts of which resonate with those given in Mormon theology (and are actually quite similar in all major religions).  That we are born of the creator for many of the same reasons that parents have children. To know oneself. To have duality which makes existence meaningful. That in order to have sentient existence one must create divisions and polarities, which give possibility to drama.  That meaningful existence, and drama are the result of division, separation, conflict and pain which make possible the opposing states of unity, oneness, resolution and pleasure. In Mormonism and other religions we give names and attach stories to individuals who embody these states of being. Satan or the devil is the great divider. The cause of our fall from primordial unity. The primal cause and perpetuator of conflict. The source of all hate & pain. In Christianity, Christ is the living symbol of love and unity. The resolver of conflict, the atonement of fall or separation; the source of joy and happiness.

So my question to Mormonism is who do you want to follow?  All religious leaders have been made free by the Creator to chose whether their religion is a Christ to the world or a Satan; a unifier or a divider. Throughout history, no dispensation or religion has been able to avoid being a little bit of both, but the real question is what do you want to be? What are you going to chose your purpose to be? No one wants to be the villain, we all want to be the hero… but the villain almost always sees himself as a hero. The question is, do you want to unify or divide?  Separate or atone?  Cause people to fall from happiness or redeem them from misery?  The way is open for you to choose… and I think all who feign to follow Christ have already chosen.  Now we just need to check ourselves to see how we are doing.  Look to the apostates, the ex-Mormons, the cast out and divided and ask ourselves did we hurt them or force them out?  And if so… how?

Agency as the Preeminent Principle

The Church teaches the principle that a person’s free-agency is preeminent; that Lucifer’s plan is one of force and Christ’s plan is one of freedom.  But as I talk with and read the message boards of ex-Mormons, the primal underlying reason I find that has caused people to leave is the feeling that they were being forced or manipulated to believe what the church teaches and forced or strong-armed into keeping the church’s strictures. This is a very difficult organizational issue with no easy solution. But I believe simple awareness and discussion could help immensely to prevent division caused by it. How does one promote and maintain standards without some type of administrative or intellectual “force”. When does persuasion become manipulation? How do you keep those with differing opinions from feeling marginalized and undervalued? When does a quest to maintain unity (through agreeableness or acquiescence) actually end up causing disunity? Might it help to put forth a little extra effort to always stress in our persuasions that “we believe God has held forth these standards as the path to happiness and social stability, but we also believe that every person must chose their path according to their own mind and heart.  So we love and accept you regardless of your path… but we hold up these certain standards of what we think is best.” We need to identify what types of talks or practices are causing so many to literally hate Mormonism because they felt so forced, manipulated and/or marginalized when they were believing members. We need to actually follow the last twelve verses of D&C 121.

Creeds, Tenets, Strictures and Dogma

The Churches of Joseph Smith’s day had become weighed down in creeds, tenets, strictures and dogma which divided the people instead of unifying them. In Joseph Smith history we are told that

all their creeds were an abomination in His sight; that those professors were all corrupt [distorting the truth]; that: “they draw near to Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof”.

Unfortunately, following human nature, I think Mormonism has fallen into these same tendencies.  As we are told, “we have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion” (D&C 121:39). That is, the leaders of religious systems draft up overly narrow-minded or manipulative creeds which are defined as “a formal statement of beliefs” or “a set of beliefs or aims that guide someone’s actions”. In Mormonism there are many, many of these, which just like in Joseph Smith’s time are well-meaning, but tend to divide and alienate people into subsets of “good christians/bad christians”. (The for strength of youth pamphlet contains many good examples). Sad experience also shows that religious leaders begin to create strictures or “commandments of men” which expand God’s law into a obligatory burden instead of common-sense, loving counsel. This was true with the Mosaic law and became true again in the early apostolic church. The Judeo-Christian cannon shows that God and Christ gave strict commands/counsel, but always left it to lower mediators to affix earthly penalties to transgression. This is a grave responsibility and history has shown that these earthly mediators have repeatedly used their religious authority (priesthood) to exercise “power, and influence” (D&C 121:41) which seeks to “exercise control or dominion or compulsion upon the souls of the children of men” (D&C 121:37) in unloving ways. The result of which causes members and non-members alike to “esteem them as their enemy” (D&C 121:43). Might we try harder to hold up a “standard of godliness” without making God’s law or standards a burden? Without so many one-size-fits all righteousness tests and punishments. Without manipulative tactics that make people feel like we’re saying “if you don’t believe or keep these standards, you’re not righteous and don’t love god, because if you loved him, you’d keep these commandments.”

Every parent must learn the best way to balance their children’s agency with their own responsibility to teach good works without permanent division or estrangement. Each church leader must use these same principles to lead their flock without pushing 25 of the 99 to join the proverbial one.

Elitism, Pride of “The Elect of God”

In my opinion many church teachings create an environment and atmosphere of pride and elitism. We stress how “elect” and “true” we are instead of how sinful and ignorant/untrue we are.  We too often hear talks patting ourselves on the back and saying we have no need to apologize for being “the only true church”. See the article “the only true church” for thoughts on this suggesting that our own scripture does not agree with this prideful attitude.

When Joseph Smith began to reform/restore the North American branch of Christianity, his revelations declared that the united group or “Church” which he led was “true and living”, and that God was “well pleased” with them collectively (D&C 1:30).  But by 1832 the “whole church” was “under condemnation” for “unbelief” and not obeying the things taught in the Book of Mormon (D&C 84:54–57). In accordance with the teachings of the Book of Mormon, in 1834 the quintessential doctrine of economic equality (united order) was revealed and the saints were told if they did not live it they would be “cursed with a very sore and grievous curse” and turned over “to the buffetings of satan” (D&C 104:1–10). The saints failed to make it work and because they couldn’t “impart of their substance” and were “not united according to the union required by the law of the celestial kingdom”, they were “not redeemed” and were left to be “chastened for a time” in the wilderness (D&C 105:1–7).  Even greater condemnation and cursing occurred later because of abuses of priesthood (especially concerning polygamy) and culminated in the murder of Joseph Smith by defectors and the driving of the Church out of the United States.  Joseph and the Church were repeatedly warned about lust, greed, and self-righteousness in their own revelations.  Is it perhaps time for us to take a step back and collectively take accountability for the church’s part of causing this division?  I believe this is starting to happen, but we have a long way to go.

The following are just a few suggestions, which compared to the whole of LDS doctrine and practices outlined in the Church handbook of Instruction are a very small percentage of the whole. I am also not advocating changing these things to fit solely my views, but that I have read of many, many ex-mormons and active mormons who have issues related to what I have written.  I suggest that if church members were allowed and encouraged to be more involved in determining doctrine and practice (involvement I believe our scriptures advocate), each stake could implement changes according to what the Spirit dictated to them, which best suited their needs and views. And a lot of division could be avoided.

The Infallibility of the “Prophet”

-The idea that “The Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of this Church to lead you astray”, is pure fantasy (official decl 1). It is essentially a Mormon version of Papal Infallibility or the Divine Right of Kings. We don’t need to demonize presidents of the Church for saying this, but it comes from a place of ego, and causes more division than it prevents. I believe the Hebrew or Chinese Mandate of Heaven was a better way to convey the true principle. I think that D&C 68:4 and similar scriptures which teach that a prophet is only a prophet when the Spirit inspires them is similar to the idea of a ‘Mandate of Heaven’. But we need Oaspe 34/9.1-9.22 to help us understand that D&C 50:21–23 is saying that words spoken by the “Spirit” to a prophet are only binding upon a listener if that same “Spirit” testifies to the listener of their truth!  In other words, no one is bound by the dictates of a “prophet” or priesthood leader unless the Spirit testifies to them personally that what the prophet says is true. For an LDS leader to manipulate or ‘guilt’ a member to keeping any moral law (such as polygamy, the word of wisdom or chastity) with reasoning which makes people feel like they “must follow the prophet” or they are unrighteous is wrong. Church leaders speak as common men, until their decisions are ratified by the “common consent of the church” (D&C 26:2, 28:13, 104:71-85); which process establishes that the majority of the church had the Spirit verify the prophet counsel to their hearts–and thus it should be democratically made into binding church policy.

To keep the church or its leaders from leading each other “astray” would be to abridge agency, and contrary to the nature of the redemptive God. Only “Lucifer” would lead an organization this way (not saying he does). There is no scriptural or historical precedence for this statement, in fact all historical evidence is to the contrary. But it does take a large responsibility of self determination off the shoulders of members who believe it and puts it on the poor leaders who perpetuate this philosophy. (Since many accounts suggest they are bound to their zealots in the afterlife.)  Nearly all autocratic systems use this philosophy to keep the populace subservient. In this age are the LDS people really so unruly that such a doctrine is needed to keep social harmony and leadership support? When you abridge the agency of others with manipulative doctrines like this, you will always get considerable backlash.

Economic Equality & Money Mismanagement

I believe “God’s people” or the people of the prophets are meant to be a type or microcosmic example of the world in general. Higher beings send prophets to tell people clearly about the requirements and timetables for human progression and evolution. After visionary prophets next comes inspiration to the scholars, musicians and artists which create large cultural movements. If the people and politicians do not respond to these movements the protection and guidance of “the Spirit” is withdrawn, which allows autocratic despots to come to power in order to balance the scales and force progression (usually through revolution/war). After a long stream of prophets from the second great awakening (including Joseph Smith), God inspired many cultural icons to encourage imperialistic Europe & America to progress toward economic & social equality (see new imperialism). When that didn’t work he allowed Marx, Engels and others to ignite the revolutionary fires and let the autocrats do their work in WWI & WWII. I believe America and her churches which profess to be “Christ’s”, are under special responsibility to be an example in living the laws of economic and social equality.

As a church, we might not have the necessary influence to change national or global economic policy, But it might be helpful for us to listen to our detractors and defectors concerning where we put our money. Building multi-million dollar temples which have essentially become a club for our particular ideas of “righteousness” is an organizationally dangerous practice. It is no different than the cathedrals of Medieval Christianity which are denounced in our own scripture (2 Ne 28:13). What are we trying to teach with the lavishness of these structures anyway? That if your keep the law of tithing, chastity and Word of Wisdom you will be rewarded by a posh abode in heaven? I believe the highest blessings of the temple were always in working together to build the building which was symbolic of what true heaven is. That the building itself is simply a symbol of the spiritual condition of those who built it.  It is a bunch of family & friends working together to build an organization of unity and love. Economic equality must take far higher priority than church buildings or our buildings run the risk of becoming “whitewashed sepulchres–shiny on the outside but inside full of dead mens’ bones”.

I think tithing is another issue we should continually reevaluate and revisit. I’ve seen many orthodox Christian believe they are “righteous” by paying their tithing and fast offering but then tend to vehemently fight anything that comes close to resembling socialism. I believe that tithing outside of the context of social economic equality is a distortion of the principle. In my reading of the Old testament, it seems tithing and the “Lord’s storehouse” were always meant to feed the less fortunate and promote economic equality. The LDS “welfare system” is a good start toward economic equality, but just as in Medieval Christianity it serves in some people’s minds as a bandaid that consoles our conscience but miss the whole point of consecration & social equality. I believe 4rth Nephi in the Book of Mormon goes to show that the entire purpose of “pure religion” is to establish a working version of socialism and economic/social equality. That’s not to say that the prevailing liberal views of socialism (which involve a lot of force, idleness & manipulation) are the way to go about social economic equality, but I am saying a working version of “socialism” which maintains economic equality seems to be required for entrance into even the lower sections of the terrestrial kingdom of LDS theology.

Word of Wisdom and Law of Chastity & Other Laws

The morality of sexuality and substance abuse/use is a can worms. All of these laws highlight important social problems and seek to curb dangerous human proclivities. However, the counsel and “words of wisdom” which we have turned into strictures and commandments cause massive division in our youth. The current system of chastity is most certainly the largest cause of apostasy among the youth–But how could it not be? I believe the key is in making God’s commandments a standard and not a dogmatic burden–which can only be done by emphasizing free-agency over dogmatic strictures. By appealing to gentle persuasion, wisdom in case studies, and statistics instead of priesthood & commandments. I believe D&C 121:39–46 is the key to properly teaching these complicated lessons. I think the morphing of the word of wisdom from a wonderful suggestion into a half-baked commandment (tea and coffee are evil but meat is fine?) has done more harm than good (although it does have its advantages). A greater living of D&C 121:39–46 would bring more harmony to the saints in regards to these important, but delicate laws and human tendencies. see some ideas in A Bit on Moral Purity Also lessons on pornography.

Once again we have become far too dogmatic and pharisaical just like the religions that God told Joseph Smith were “an abomination in his sight”. Instead of simply being taught the wisdom of sexual purity, youth are manipulated into sexual repression and then often manipulated and pressured into marriage covenants. The Bishop has been turned into an inquisitor instead of a judge and youth counselor. Constant yes or no interviews pretend to establish readiness and righteousness within a context of religious social pressure. If you don’t keep the temporal “law” you are made to feel unrighteous. The true principles of righteousness (unselfishness) become distorted. I believe God’s law is not supposed to be a burden but a guide (BOBK 31:13, 41:4). God expects his people to teach the world the positive and negative effects of sex, drugs, pornography, marriage, church attendance (all aspects of his law), but when we simply demonize certain human behaviors and make people feel “wicked” for doing them instead of lovingly helping them learn the lessons inherent in the behaviors, we become salt that has lost its savor and is ready to be cast away. A light on a hill shows the right Way, it does not demonize the wrong way. Marriage outside the temple does not necessarily make someone “unrighteous”–but that is how our teachings come across. Drugs and alcohol do not necessarily make you unrighteous–but that is how our teachings come across. Sex within marriage is not the only “righteous sex”–but that is how our teachings come across.  I believe the proclivities of youth are most often a result of the habits or repressed desires of their parents, ancestors or culture passed through the group consciousness. It is best to help them work through their desires and slowly turn them to paths of unselfishness. To teach by demonizing them or labeling their behaviors as “wicked” simply shows your own unrighteousness.  Everyone is here on earth to learn the fruits of our desires, and that cannot happen unless we are given freedom to learn from trial and error in a frank and open teaching environment.

Sexual Morality

In my experience, sexuality (although often unspoken) is the number one reason for division and apostasy in the youth of the church. I believe most people would agree that sexual morality is a very important part of personal and social health and balance. The problem is that every Joe or religious priesthood leader has their own ideas on the details of how that morality should be defined. The LDS standard works contain the whole spectrum of relativism, universalism, monogamy, polygamy, polygyny and polyandry. Perhaps more than any other human function sex can be used to unite or used to divide— as a archetypical Christ or Satan. There are baser aspects of the human sex drive which like a fire desire only to burn all available materials it can get its hands on, without care for the overall well-being of the forest. To take only for oneself without any thought of what is best for others. But because of its deeply personal nature, there are also few things which can divide and destroy a group more than the systematized demonization or proscription of its functions. The more selfish a people, the more strict and legalistic priesthood and political administrators seem to feel they need to be. The Mosaic law attempted to define every detail of sexual morality; but Christ did away with that law. Not surprisingly His few veiled words on sexual morality seem to suggest that the most important principle is that it be used to unite people, and that neither priests nor prostitutes were justified in practices which promoted division or divorce of any kind (Matt 19:3–12, Mark 10:2–12, John 8:3–11). Paul had quite a bit to say about sexual morality, but Peter, James and John say very little. Medieval Christianity also became full of legalistic strictures, but Joseph Smith did his best to do away with those. Like Christ, he attempted to break people free of the traditional medieval religious dogma and strictures and institute a system which honored both people’s sexual proclivities and the necessity for law, order, godliness and priesthood (read his letter to Nancy Rigdon for some insight into this). However, I believe his system failed because it caused too much jealousy and division (women were marginalized and made unequal, young women were coerced into being taken in marriages and mature men were manipulated into taking them, polygyny was institutionalized within a patriarchy without any balancing polyandry or matriarchy).

My belief is that there is no easy answer for this, but the more you use practices of force and manipulation to control sexuality, the more you will actually give rise to the kind of selfishness and disdain which all godly people are trying to avoid. I believe parents should hold the primary responsibility of teaching sexual morality. The Church should assure it is taught and give aid, but take care not to get too specific on moral strictures. It should not manipulate parents into giving their children one-size-fits-all rules that might not be best for their particular circumstances. It should do its best not to demonize human sexuality. Regardless of the standard the church decides to hold as “the best way”, it should not be made a burden to those not ready to live it. Those who let their light of a godly life shine to all men will naturally attract people toward that light. Those who “exercise control or dominion or compulsion upon the souls of the children of men” are inevitably simply going to cause division and animosity. In my opinion the Church’s entire current system of sexual morality as taught in the for strength of youth pamphlet, worthiness interviews, youth curriculum and temple marriage system is targeted too much toward controlling our children, instead of teaching our children—and just as in the polygamous environment of Joseph Smith’s day, the animosity and polarization of our apostates shows it is not working very well.

The Most High God as the Head of our Religion

-God is the “Father” of all intelligent life in the universe and is no respecter of persons.  Both Christian and Restorationism texts suggest that mortal organizations are led through a line of super-human and human mediators according to their agency. When we portray every or most acts of our leaders or “prophets” as coming straight from the mouth of the Most High God (or even Jesus Christ), we doom ourselves to inevitable internal and external division. When we claim special privilege to Jesus Christ, as if he is the head of our Church and not other people’s church we pridefully invite division. This idea is contrary to our own theology, and people intuitively know it is not the case especially when someone gets to studying Mormon history. The idea that earth is ruled through a hierarchy or “chain” of higher beings and not by the “most high God” himself (Telestial through ministrations of the terrestrial D&C 76:88) is one of the most profound doctrines taught in LDS theology. Intertwined in this theology is the principle that man can become a God and that the “God” or higher beings who direct us are exalted men. (see TPJS, as well as detailed descriptions of how this works in Oahspe)  When we shy away from these important doctrines (which are integral aspects of the restorationism movement) in order to cater to the biases of Medieval Christianity, we invite the division that was inherent in their belief systems. Whether it is the Pope or LDS prophet, it is scripturally and morally wrong to pretend that all your religious actions are direct consequences of direction given by the Most High God. This is the true meaning of “taking the Name of the Lord in vain” and we do it in earnest.  The LDS temple endowment teaches with incredible simplicity and beauty this principle that revelation comes down through the kingdoms or dimensions (celestial “Father” to terrestrial “Son”, to telestial Peter, James & John and finally to mortal man), and that these higher beings always wait for a time to see if the earthly recipients obey, before they give more knowledge and guidance.  During this waiting period we are taught by lower angels and deceivers symbolized by Lucifer.  So during the waiting periods, all higher Gods give lower gods, archangels (whatever terminology you want to use) and earthly prophets and organizational leaders almost universal agency to run things according to what people seem to want and need; and much of the “revelation” during these periods ends up coming from lower and even “earthly” sources.  When we don’t fully understand these principle (taught plainly and beautifully in many other sources), it is natural to fall into the errors delineated in the next paragraphs.  When organizations feign power and authority that their history and works show are not valid, they lose the faith of their of populace and fall.  Teaching principles of authority more like Hindu thought and less like medieval Christianity and Catholicism would go a long way toward preventing apostasy and division.

Rejecting the Living Prophets

I believe that probably the most damning (or something that stops or impedes our progression) aspect of modern Mormonism is our rejection if the living prophets. This is pretty ironic, considering that we pride ourselves in being the “only true church” who has living prophets and apostles. But we as LDS Church members should stop and think about this for a minute… Israel and the world in general have nearly ALWAYS rejected the prophets, and yet Israel and every church in the world has nearly ALWAYS accepted and supported their priesthood/religious leaders  as the “mouthpieces” of God. We completely forget that the gift of prophesy (a gift of the spirit) is not the same as priesthood authority! Very few of the biblical prophets were priests or even held the priesthood for that matter (ie. being Levites). Instead most seem to have come from eccentric cults, and because they were not “mainstream” (either weird or nobodies or do strange things like walk around naked and barefoot) they were rejected. Jesus himself was excommunicated or “thrown out” because his teachings were too radical for the jewish religious establishment, and the President of the High Priesthood (a title we misleadingly label the “prophet”), was actually a main player in plotting his death “for the good of the fold”. God continually gives varying degrees of the gift of prophecy to people of every religion and decade. The “restoration texts” and “prophesy” sections of the this website house just a few of the many modern prophets (or those exercising the gift of prophecy, and gift of revelation). In my experience, just like a Catholic or any other religion, LDS church members fear anything that doesn’t come from their leaders. They do not support or seek out truth or continuing revelation in the world.

A Theocratic Autocracy instead of Rule by “Common Consent”

As I already mentioned, no advice, decree or edict of the “prophet” or church’s priesthood is binding upon any individual in the church unless the Spirit testifies the truth of it to that individual, causing them to covenant to obey.  (See D&C 68:4 contrasted with D&C 50:21–22 & Oaspe 34/9.1-9.22)  When leaders really understand this, it forces them to both understand and follow the principles of D&C 121:41–45. When you can no longer maintain “power or influence by virtue of the priesthood [hierarchy]” (D&C 121:41), you realize your only real recourse is using positive attributes like “persuasion, gentleness and meekness, love unfeigned, kindness, and pure knowledge” (D&C 121:42).  Which lays the groundwork for the democratic system of “common consent” revealed by Joseph Smith. That every policy and edict given “by the Spirit” to church leaders can only be binding if a majority of members (and in some cases unanimously without objection; D&C 107:27–29) also felt the spirit verify the truth of the policy change to them so that the policy can be instituted by the common consent of the church.

In my experience, the number two reason for people leaving the church is the perception that there is very little “common consent in the church” (Despite the scriptural mandate to rule this way: D&C 26:2, 28:13, 104:71-85). To most objective non-members, our form of “common consent” is like calling China or the USSR a democracy. It’s like saying the People’s Republic of North Korea is actually ruled by the people. It’s understandable why the church has been so secretive and autocratic from the time we were chased out of Missouri, might it be time to change. I believe that in recent years the Church has been making strides to change, but I believe it might need to happen a bit more quickly if we are to keep from losing half of the next generation (they are already losing more than a quarter of the current one). Below are some ways in which I believe we could better live up to our doctrinal mandate for equality and common consent.

The Proper Balance of Power in the Priesthood.

-The church’s balance of power between “federal” and “local” authority is all wacked up right now.  It has also completely distorted the principle of common consent (D&C 26:2, 28:13, 104:71, 104:72, 104:85). D&C 107 makes it clear that stake presiding councils are to be equal in authority to the general councils or authorities of the church.  Currently, the church membership has given WAY too much personal authority to the general or “federal” councils of the church in the same way that the United States government has whittled away local and states rights, foolishly giving too much power to the federal and upper executive branch of government.  This imbalance of power is dividing and destroying our nation and the same imbalance of power is causing great problems in the church. It is this imbalance, caused largely by Brigham Young, that has caused the church to become far too, robotic, authoritarian and pharisaical.  Centralized power serves its purpose in the early stages of a nation or organization, but as the group forms a self identity and matures this power structure must relax or it will bread division.   The church is commanded in all things, when history as well as D&C 58:26–29 and D&C 121:41 make it clear that this type of governance leads to a poor outcome (a robot populace, bondage and division).  Doctrine and covenants 107 makes it clear that the “three presidents” or first presidency (D&C 107:22) form a quorum that is equal in power and authority with the “twelve traveling councilors” or quorum of the twelve apostles (D&C 107:23–24), which is also to be equal in authority to both the seventy or “traveling ministers” and the “standing high council” or or stake high councils (D&C 107:36).

Does any Mormon (especially Mormon youth) give equal weight to the counsel of our celebrity apostles during general conference as they do for the discourses of a high counselor on “dry council Sunday”?  Does any High Councilor dare contradict an apostle? If they did they would be excommunicated, because of repeated systematic apostolic abuse of priesthood (D&C 121:41) has destroyed this balance of power in the Church. The imbalance caused by our disobedience to the proper emphasis on authority structure explained to us in our own scripture causes many to fall away from the church.  When through preaching, general conference and fan-fare, we make the general councils of the church into God-ordained celebrities, the populace of the church gains improper expectations and understandings of the role of the differing levels of government in the church. They come to believe the “apostles” are more righteous than themselves. It creates a class structure of a ruling elite and subservient “unworthy” proletariat which is a strictly service-to-self practice. It causes members to lose the understanding of the difference between priesthood and prophets. They come to believe the general authorities are more worthy of revelation to rule a member’s life than that member or that member’s parents.  This is emphatically not so, and the imbalance caused by this abuse of priesthood power and authority (D&C 121:41) causes imbalances in the hearts of the members… which in turn leads to their leaving the church. This is a difficult issue, because it is born out of good intent, but I fear our church’s organizational emphasis now so closely resembles that of Catholic Church which Joseph and his father so despised, that we are beginning to see more and more like-minded members repulsed and apostatizing.

36 The standing high councils, at the stakes of Zion, form a quorum equal in authority in the affairs of the church, in all their decisions, to the quorum of the presidency, or to the traveling high council.
37 The high council in Zion form a quorum equal in authority in the affairs of the church, in all their decisions, to the councils of the Twelve at the stakes of Zion.

A good start to a solution might be to give equal time to Stake High Councilors in General Conference as is given the apostles. Certainly we need to do far, far more things “by the common consent of the church” (D&C 26:2, 28:13, 104:71, 104:72, 104:85) . But more importantly the apostles need to greatly humble themselves, and explain by word and policy that they are no higher nor more righteous than the stake high councils. Many people wrongly crave a celebrity to worship, and I very rarely see the LDS Church celebrities doing much to reverse the trend. In fact, just as with the Catholic Church before Pope francis, I see mostly the opposite.

The Only True Church

-Teaching that the church is the “only true church” is foolish and egocentric. we should find a better way to teach this complicated topic of what it means to be “true”. I think this leads more people out of Mormonism than any other doctrine. And worse, it creates great anger in many of the apostates for having believed it. It is understood that this idea helps build pride and polarize people with a desire to serve God by serving the church, but this type of zealousness inevitably leads to disillusionment and anger. I understand the perceived need and effectiveness of this doctrine when a religion is young, but at what point do you give it up?  Both Israel and Catholicism were essentially destroyed by the pride created and inherent to this doctrine.  It distorts the very meaning of the word true, and is a gross distortion of the “truth”.  I cant even begin to explain how unscriptural and how riddles with issues this claim is. Read Is The LDS Church The Only True Church? What Really is Truth? for a detailed explanation of a more correct view of truth and priesthood.

Ordinances & Assembly-line Salvation

Part of the “creeds” and corrupted aspect of medieval Christianity had to do with their distorted idea of ordinances.  Distorted and manipulative beliefs such as that sprinkling a baby meant the difference between being saved or damned. The idea that saying a sinners prayer meant the difference between salvation and damnation.  My observance is that we have become so very similar our use of “dead” ordinances.  Our idea that our dead must have “saving ordinances” in order to gain salvation is often used in frighteningly similar manipulative ways when I believe it was actually instituted to achieve the opposite. I believe that vicarious ordinances were largely instituted to console and give hope to those entrenched in the belief that their dead were damned because they were not baptised. By instituting the doctrine that everyone who ever lived will at some point (presumably “during the millennium”) have ordinances vicariously performed, ordinances as a requirement for “salvation” becomes a mute point. A child or acquaintance who is not baptised or “married in the temple” is no reason for sorrow or manipulation because conformity based on unity can be achieved just as easily after death.

Many things I read from disillusioned Mormons, as well as my own experience suggest imbalanced views exist on these topics. Ordinances certainly have their place, as does ancestor worship and redemptive work, but it must be kept in perspective. But do ordinances feed the poor?  Do ordinances do one bit to alleviate the ills of human society? Can ordinances even really make you part of a group at heart? I believe ordinances were instituted as a means to an end (a teaching tool & symbolic gesture), not an end in themselves.  I think the oft taught idea that the “sacrament” is the most important part of Church causes people to look beyond the mark. I think not stressing that ordinances for the dead are as much for the living as anything causes people to look beyond the mark. I think advancing pupils through levels of priesthood office or performing ordinances such as baptism by AGE instead of by an individuals showing a willing desire and readiness for the responsibilities and covenants ordinances symbolizes (devoid of family or social pressure) is also problematic. (but then again so is ordination by “readiness” & invitation such as the office of High Priest. There is power and efficiency in the present system, but how can the ills it causes be better illuminated and the good it accomplishes accentuated?

The Gifts of the Spirit vs. Priesthood Authority

-There needs to be better understanding of how righteousness and priesthood relate to miracle work and adepthood (one who has mastered a miraculous spiritual gift). We need to better understand the difference between priesthood and prophets. You do not have to be “righteous” (in the sense of keeping strictures or mosaic-like commandments) to be a healer or exercise other spiritual or miraculous gifts. Both Mormon and general Christian doctrine teach that Lucifer and his angels hold priesthood and can perform miracles (and they obviously dont keep our commandments). Clairvoyance, Clairaudience, seership and prophecy are “gifts of the Spirit” available to all men who learn the principles of faith and consciousness governing these abilities. (3 Ne 8:1 is highly misunderstood.)  Seems sad to me that in some ways Star Wars seems to do a better job of teaching how to access God’s power or “force” than most Mormon handbooks.  Our way of teaching these principles has destroyed our faith in them (Ether 12:12). We have countless talks and videos suggesting that “if you don’t keep the mormon strictures/commandments, you wont be able to exercise your priesthood to heal someone when the time comes”. The gift of healing is a gift of the Spirit, not solely a priesthood ordinance, and the gifts of the Spirit are not dependant upon the keeping of religious law. They are dependant upon the spiritual faith and balance of the individual seeking to tap into God’s power. The ‘law of one’ does a really good job of explaining how these supernatural powers are obtained and developed. The ritualistic “temporal ordinances” associated with healing are powerful psychological aids, and can be effectively utilized by both men and women, members and non-members.  The distorted Mormon views on this are tragedies, because it forces many natural adepts (healers, prophets, clairvoyants, and clairaudients) out of the Church.  They generally go join eastern or new age movements because those movements have a more correct free philosophy concerning faith and the gifts of the spirit.  However, our church has a lot of really good teaching concerning these abilities as well.

Mechanics of Prophecy, Revelation and Channeling

-As mentioned before, most prophets, revelators or god’s “channels” exist outside of the Church because of our distorted views on these gifts of the Spirit has destroyed our faith in them. Thats not to say our “Prophet” (president of the High Priesthood) or bishops or members don’t receive revelation, because they most certainly do. But most revelation to the world (both positive and negative) is presently coming primarily through the new-age movement (and Hindu based religions). Our distorted views range from an idea that only the Apostles can receive revelation for the world or Church (they have overstepped their priesthood by teaching this), to an idea that only men can prophesy or receive revelation, to preconceived ideas on what what revelation should sound like (17th century english) .  This keeps us from understanding the true nature of revelation, and keeps us from believing much of the modern revelation that comes from the spirit world and keeps us often from exercising the gifts of the spirit. A prophet is a channel or mystic. Revelation is channeling. The question is “who is it coming from?”, and this is the bishop’s job to decide and regulate. (D&C 46:27) Once again, the ‘law of one’ explains this as well. Its sad that so many have issues with the translation of the Abraham papyrus/book of the dead and Isaiah sections of the Book of Mormon because of not understanding these principles. Channelling always sounds a little hokey (like much of the D&C) and adepts are often a bit weird frankly (Joseph putting his face in a hat and using “props” to enter the needed trance state which makes communication possible). An adepts “righteousness” (selflessness/balance) dictate what “spirits” or levels of heaven the adept can/will connect to, and more importantly the distortion that he/she will introduce to the revealed/channeled material. Revelation is far more like connecting to a mainframe full of information in binary code than reading english words on a computer screen. Oahspe talks about the “line of light” but Seth Material explains better the “Jacobs ladder” of spirits needed to relay and translate data/revelation from the higher planes. Each step of the relay has the possibility for distortion. Crystals (Urim & Thumim) are used to train, focus and enhance the abilities of the adept. The piezoelectric effects and holographic storage properties of crystals were far better understood by the ancients; as well as techniques for using them to interface with human consciousness. I suspect this issue will be addressed as the millennial age progresses, and channeling (revelation with God/gods through the veil) will become a regular part of the temple ceremony.  Our culture probably just isn’t ready for this stuff because of the negative stigmas attached to the occult and mysticism.  Unfortunately, modern negatively oriented groups which have mastered these principles (secret combinations) are gaining the upper hand in many social and political arenas because they understand these principles better than most Christians and Mormons.

The Nature of God

Teaching that the Most High God has a body, and that this “restored truth” is what makes our church more true than others. This is a touchy and complicated topic because it involves reconciling the monotheistic and polytheistic aspects of Joseph Smith’s revelations and restorationism. But I fear our concept of God has become just as much an idol or creed as the rigid concepts that Joseph Smith sought to escape. We seem to define our view of God exclusively by contrasting it with that of Medieval Christianity’s trinity (and claim our view is the only true one) but we fail to see the complexities of abstract polytheism which are woven into our doctrine. Like hinduism or Buddhism, Mormon’s should understand the semantic difficulties in defining the different levels of beings we call “God” or “gods” and be less prideful in our supposed ownership of them.  Mormon’s generally know that in the “One True God”,  “there are god’s many” (D&C 121:28) who are one in purpose but separate entities, but we should teach the unique aspects of each level of the being/beings we call God and admit that we just don’t know much about “The Most High God” (D&C 121:28–32). It’s a difficult concept and history will show which religion’s approach was the most effective, but given our concepts of divine investiture of authority it just doesn’t fit logic or our doctrine to teach that the “Father” who appeared to Joseph Smith was the one and only form of the Most High God in the universe. And it is especially silly for it to ever be a source of pride or contention. Based on our own cosmology we could speculate as to which level of mediator god is being described in most accounts & appearances of God in LDS scripture (think of Rev 22:7–9); as well as speculate as to the nature of the Unity which makes them all One God. Can we at least agree that God may seem to reveal himself as a human at times and but that we only know of Him what he chooses to reveal? Perhaps when the church begins to grow in India the time will be right to release our view of God from the strict idol it has become?  Joseph Smith’s revelations really do hold the key in reconciling the extremes of Hindu polytheism and Islamic extreme monotheism; I think its time we are more intelligent and less prideful in our teaching of those doctrines.

Book of Mormon Historical, Archaeological and DNA Evidence (& other scriptural issues)

There are a lot of scriptural issues which cause people to leave the church. Many of these are resolved by interpreting the facts with a broader understanding of revelation. If people believe, as the Church often suggests, that the Book of Mormon or Doctrine & Covenants are the exact words of Mormon or The Most High God or an omniscient Jesus Christ as he spoke directly to Joseph Smith in King James English; then once the facts are known it is difficult for any rational Mormon NOT to lose their testimony. But instead if we stress the obvious fact that revelation and visions are more like an individual subjectively tapping into a mainframe of information, and consciousness; and that the revelator uses his own judgement to formulate the ideas contained in the mainframe into words and ideas as interpreted through his own cultural and language biases, then inconsistencies suddenly start to make sense. At the same time we should stress that that current scientific and cultural biases are likely clouding our own judgement as we point out supposed inconsistencies. In my perspective, I believe archaeologists have found every major city mentioned in the book of Mormon, and Mormon/Moroni did really good jobs describing things; but it is minor geographic changes and skewed radiometric dating methods which lead to the apparent inconsistencies (in both Book of Mormon and DNA testing). In my worldview, the same is true with the apparent inconsistencies with the biblical story and geological/archaeological evidence. In my opinion, it seems hurtful to our cause to say “this is how it is, and the world is wrong”.  And better to say, “this is what our scriptures say, and we’re trying to get the truth things just like anyone else… ”  That just because something is considered “The word of God” it doesn’t mean its not a jumble of principles completely distorted by the messengers, but we do not wish to be so presumptuous or judgmental as to accuse it of being so. We instead want to get all the truth out of it we can. And there’s a lot we just aren’t able to understand, but lets all work together to find the truth of the matter.

Effective encouragement of the Arts
In my perspective the LDS view of appropriate outlets for the arts needs work.  In my experience the thought of having “non-approved” music in church (which these days is only the 19th century hymns) was anathema. Essentially, It can not be underestimated how important music, literature, dance and art are in shaping society and in worship.  Currently the evangelical Christian community is doing the best job in combating moral decay in our society by music, etc…      [finish this later]

Arguments Against Unrestricted Free Speech & Bad Behavior

Society has placed certain restrictions on the availability and use of certain addictive or harmful drugs for very good reasons.  The use and distribution of both drinking and cigarette smoking are prohibited to people under a certain age… for good reason.  Youth have historically been shown to be more easily manipulated and coerced into participating in personally or socially destructive behavior…

Similarly all free speech is not protected by the constitution.  In matters of national security there are many secrets and types of information which are classified and may only be spoken of by those authorized to do so.  Sharing or selling national security secrets which could result in the harm or death of United States citizens in punishable by the most severe penalties in national law

Also, assault by speech is not protected by the United States constitution.  You cannot legally threaten to kill someone or groups of people.  You cannot verbally abuse or demean people in ways laid out by state and national laws.  Why?  Because certain types of “free speech”, such as running around a busy airport with a fake bomb strapped to your chest yelling “I going to kill all of you blankity blanks “ has been deemed unacceptable in our society because of the fear and emotion trauma it can cause.

Believe it or not, there are also laws against hanging dead bodies along public walkways or lining our streets with severed heads. But what if the individuals consent to the public display of their mutilated bodies or body parts before they die, isn’t prohibiting this against our constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech?  Only a seriously disturbed, sick individual would assert that such a thing should be legal under the constitution.  Why? Because life and the human body deserves a certain dignity, and good people should not be subjected to such a degrading display of barbarism.

It is this same reasoning that caused most states and municipalities to pass laws against streaking, public nudity or public sexual conduct.  The freedom of speech does not and never was meant to protect activities that the public majority has deemed socially harmful of unacceptable!

So why is it that certain naïve groups and individuals in this nation believe that the constitution guarantees the right to ALL types of free speech?  Or believe that ALL types of censorship are or should be illegal? For good reasons, the constitution guarantees certain types of free speech and while allowing for the restriction of other types which have been deemed by the voice of the people to be sufficiently socially destructive or harmful to merit restriction.

This country was established by the people, for the people.  So if the majority of the people in a school, community or state want to prohibit certain sexual behaviors or block access to pornography because they deem it socially destructive, then not only is it constitutional, it is a democratic right—the very thing the constitution was written to protect!

Freedom, mercy and justice are delicate principles to balance.  They must all be kept in balance for a society to function and last.  When it comes to harmful behaviors, mercy can only be extended for so long, eventually the individuals practicing harmful behaviors MUST change or be cast out of the community or they endangers the very basis of the utopian life we all seek. What is it that makes a nation or society great? It is the laws the people live by; it is their way of life. It its their sustainable customs and practices that make the community a heaven, and the conglomeration of those communities makes a society great. Those who practice unbalanced sexual behaviors (of which predatory fornicators, homosexuals and adulterers often are) sadly cannot be allowed the fullest privileges of society, until they decide to change their non sustainable self-oriented sexual behavior.

If these did not have negative social consequences they would not be called sin by religion. If self-oriented sexual behaviors did not tend toward selfishness and social unsustainability they would not be prohibited by God. Is that so hard to understand? God has given man an enormous amount of wiggle room for self rule both here and in the higher spheres of existence, but if man decides to allow and heaven forbid, even encourage non sustainable and damaging social behaviors (which God calls sin) they will eventually find themselves and their kingdom slipping to a lower sphere, both in mortality and the eternal worlds.

So society should love all those that have chosen not to fight the natural man. Hope the best for them, reach out in understanding to them… but you can not condone them and you must not encourage them. Such an act would merely exhibit your own naivety and be very unloving and even self condemning in the long run.  If you follow the laws of God passed down by prophets and angels through the ages, you will elevate yourselves and your nations toward eternal sustainability. If you do not, your society will fall, your nations will collapse, your culture and your families will eventually become extinct. It is natural selection, and it is the desire of God and His religions that you end up on the winning side of it.

The Oahspe Text and Mormonism

This article outlines many of the unique correlations between the contents of Oahspe and Mormon theology and scripture.  For an introduction to Oahspe, see my article here.

Here are just a few of the concepts in Oaspe which support esoteric Mormon doctrine.

1. Oahspe’s view of the Great Spirit, perhaps matching with Mormonisms view of the “God above all other God”, from D&C 88:7–13 and D&C 121:28. (The embodied God of D&C 130:22–23 matching with the lower planetary Gods of Oahspe.
2. Oahspe’s view of the ruling gods and hierarchy of heaven. how they are simply ascended men. ‘
(In particluar Oahspe’s “‘First, Second & Third Resurrections” or heavenly planes matching perfectly with Mormonism’s three degrees of glory/heaven and resurrections of D&C 76.
3. Oahspe’s view of the apostasy and “false christ” and other false gods & saviors (caused by cosmic regions of darkness), matching well with LDS Doctrine on (& Book of Mormon discriptions of) the “great and abominable church”, the apostasy of heaven and setting up of the self-made god’s who fight against Jehovah.
4. Oahspe’s view of true religion, which is in works and not words matching with many sermons of LDS leaders past and present..
5. Unbelievable similarities between Oahspe’s view of communities of the third resurrection with Mormonisms United Order.
6. One notable difference is Oahspe’s Islamic view of Christ being stoned instead of crucified. Which is one of just a few things LDS readers will and should fully reject as a falsity that likely creeped in (perhaps by the later editor)

Overview

One interesting aspect of the Oahspe text is how its generally hostile toward organized religion. Its teachings on this matter come across a lot like other Mormon sources which insinuate that organized religions are often revealed by gods & angels but quickly corrupted through apostasy.

Oahspe’s four false gods of the lowest heavens are part of anti-organized religion theology reminiscent of the “mother of harlots” or “great and abominable church” aspect of Nephi’s vision of the Book of Mormon. Suggesting the true church of Jehovah exists in heaven, not often on earth. It suggests the medieval or Gentile Christian Church was part of the 4 false religions on earth run by lower false gods, doing things such as the inquisition, political and military control, forced conversion, manipulation, etc.

1 And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me, saying: Look! And I looked and beheld many nations and kingdoms.
2 And the angel said unto me: What beholdest thou? And I said: I behold many nations and kingdoms.
3 And he said unto me: These are the nations and kingdoms of the Gentiles.
4 And it came to pass that I saw among the nations of the Gentiles the formation of a great church.
5 And the angel said unto me: Behold the formation of a church which is most abominable above all other churches, which slayeth the saints of God, yea, and tortureth them and bindeth them down, and yoketh them with a yoke of iron, and bringeth them down into captivity.
6 And it came to pass that I beheld this great and abominable church; and I saw the devil that he was the founder of it.
7 And I also saw gold, and silver, and silks, and scarlets, and fine-twined linen, and all manner of precious clothing; and I saw many harlots.
8 And the angel spake unto me, saying: Behold the gold, and the silver, and the silks, and the scarlets, and the fine-twined linen, and the precious clothing, and the harlots, are the desires of this great and abominable church.
9 And also for the praise of the world do they destroy the saints of God, and bring them down into captivity.

In fact Oahspe teaches that nearly EVERY true sect on earth has a false counterpart in heaven ruled by a false imposter God where non-saved adherents of their faith go after death. In The Book of Es 18:6-19 it explains how Mormonism, Shakers, Swedenborgians, Hindus, Bhudists, Presbyterians, Methodists, Catholics and even Jesus early church all had “druj’s” or false God’s establish kingdoms in the lower heavens where lower adherents to all faiths go after death preparing for a time they raise high enough to enter Jehovah’s true kingdom.

Differences

However, unlike modern Mormonism Oahspe gives VERY specific tests to differentiate between true and false religion, many of which modern Mormonism (but not necessarily original Mormonism) flatly fails. These include 1. Worshipping any God born of a woman. 2. The use of armies and navies and false priests and borders to maintain political systems. (finish…)

Finish this section -> If one were to entirely believe Oahspe (which I don’t), it would suggest that like most sects, modern Mormonism was likely created by the high Gods of Jehovah, but quickly corrupted and taken over by Leeomelang or Piad the false god, who influenced many of Joseph’s later revelations in ways to support the apostate Gentile Christian doctrines of Christ being The ONLY savior and means to heaven instead of one of several, and having the LDS church be the ONLY true church instead of one of several.

Commonalities

-Oahspe teaches that the cause of the Great apostasy was cosmological. (see article on degrees of glory) That our earth and Solar System go through differing regions of the Galaxy with differing levels of light. That the “light” in these regions determines our “glory” (see D&C 88 & 76). That when we pass through dense, or dark nebula regions man and his heavenly rulers loose spiritual contact with the galactic creator and his ruling hosts and fall into apostasy.

-Another parallel is the teaching that the united states was formed to help man escape bondage of the “beast” or great and abominable church… but during the fullness of the gentiles, the beast was allowed to overrun america and even over-power the LDS saints. We as a church have adopted many of their false beliefs and practices, but will be eventually freed.

28/60.31. Behold, they [the four false Gods of Medieval Gentile religion, Gentile Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism] have appropriated four great divisions of the earth to themselves; and the heavens above them have become their dominions. Let them, therefore, keep what they have taken.
28/60.32. Because they have bound mortals by their religions, and established themselves by mortal laws and by force of their standing armies, you shall give to them all they have bound on earth and in the heavens.
28/60.33. But, behold, I have another continent, lying beyond the ocean, America, where My people know Me, and worship Me.
28/60.34. You shall inspire mortals to go there from the east and find America, and inhabit it.
28/60.35. And there, it shall come to pass, none of the false Gods shall establish their doctrines by mortal laws, and bind My people.
28/60.36. And, as for the spirits of those mortals whom the false Gods caused to be slain in the inquisitions, leave them to those Gods that took them.
28/60.37. And, though such spirits have vengeance in their hearts, and will be the means of ultimately casting the false Gods into hell, yet you shall not go near them.
28/60.38. But you shall look to the mortals, whom you shall take over to inhabit the western continent.
28/60.39. And when they have arrived, you shall send loo’is there, and raise up, by birth, certain mortals, who shall ignore the doctrine of enforced worship for any False God, Lord or Savior.
28/60.40. For the people of that land shall be free, not only in body, but in spirit also.
28/60.41. And it shall be guaranteed to them to worship in My way, so that their conscience may dictate.
28/60.42. And when the dawn of the arc of The millennium (Kosmon) comes, behold, I will open up My heavens to mortals, and prepare the foundation of My kingdom on earth

-Oahspe teaches that group association is the “beginning of the Second Resurrection” (Terrestrial Resurrection of Mormonism). It details how most rise into group association as part of one of the “four beasts” or earthly religions; and that these religions seek to help people grow into unselfishness. When people have reached a sufficient enough grade or level of unselfishness, they are allowed to ascend yet further into the highest “etherean heavens” as brides and bridegrooms of Jehovah. Since the apostasy, the earth’s predominant religions no longer seek to willingly raise adherents to higher these ever higher levels, but make themselves out to be the “all-highest” and thus impede eternal progression.

28/59.10. We admit the declension of our grades, as you have said; but, behold, your emissaries carry off our highest grades.
28/59.11. If you would carry away only our drujas, we would not interdict the travel of your ships in our heavenly dominions. But as soon as your ships come, behold, our highest grades rush for them.
28/59.12. For which reason, we have been obliged to prohibit your laborers within our dominions. (Eskra 59:10-12)

-This seems remarkably similar to the degrees of glory explained in D&C 76. Thus the Telestial Kingdom of Joseph Smith matches the fist Atmosherean resurrection in Oahspe. A location where individuals exist singly and separately and have not learned to “associate in groups”. Most of the world’s religious people end up at the top of this heaven. Oahspe describes this heaven as belonging to those who have started to learn organic association, but have “not learned to put into practice their faith and are still psychologically bound to a self-made God. (The demiurge as other texts put it, or a God who is a projection of one’s own ego.) The second Atmosherean resurrection in Oahspe correlates to Joseph Smith’s Terrestial Kingdom. Joseph Smith described it this way,

98 And the glory of the telestial is one, even as the glory of the stars is one; for as one star differs from another star in glory, even so differs one from another in glory in the telestial world;
99 For these are they who are of Paul, and of Apollos, and of Cephas.
100 These are they who say they are some of one and some of another—some of Christ and some of John, and some of Moses, and some of Elias, and some of Esaias, and some of Isaiah, and some of Enoch;
101 But received not the gospel, neither the testimony of Jesus, neither the prophets, neither the everlasting covenant. (D&C 76:98–101)

The “Some of Christ” mentioned here is obviously a false Christ. The Jesus who most Christians young in the faith worship, a self righteous Jesus who is a projection of a believers one’s own ego. A religious group who has “a form of godliness but denies the power thereof”. A Jesus who leads churches divided in sectarianism and self-righteousness, who….

-Oahspe teaches a system of spiritual adepthood similar to the law of one. That God came to earth long ago and made a race of men able to perceive Him through clairvoyance and claraudience. That many of a certain race called the I’huans (house of Israel) had this gift. Perhaps this is what Christ is referring to when he says in 3rd Nephi 15:23, ” And they understood me not that I said they shall hear my voice; and they understood me not that the Gentiles should not at any time hear my voice—that I should not manifest myself unto them save it were by the Holy Ghost.” Oahspe calls this “gift of the Spirit” of being able to see, speak to, or hear beings from the higher realms “sargis”. It tells of how Moses, Samuel and Elijah had this power in full, and where “true prophets” in that they used this gift to commune with etherean angels from the etherean (celestial) realms. We could

-The “angel of the Lord” that Joseph and Hiram quote as telling them to start polygamy or he would “cut them down” is the false God “piad” taught of in Oahspe. If these accounts are true, then Joseph really was a “fallen prophet” in that respect at least. But as D&C teaches, those with calling and election sure are “saved” as long as they don’t murder, and if they screw up, they are “destroyed in the flesh” and taken home, since an etherean has covenanted to mentor and father them. Whatever repercussions their ill motivated behavior has, becomes their joy or their bondage and all things end up working for the god’s greater good in the end.

Tell Zina, I put it off and put it off till an angel with a drawn sword stood by me and told me if I did not establish that principle upon the earth I would lose my position and my life.

“An angel came to him [Joseph Smith] and the last time he came with a drawn sword in his hand and told Joseph if he did not go into that principle, he would slay him. Joseph said he talked to him soberly about it, and told him it was an abomination and quoted scripture to him. He said in the Book of Mormon it was an abomination in the eyes of the Lord, and they were to adhere to these things except the Lord speak… [The Prophet reported that] the angel came to me three times between the years of 1834 and 1842 and said I was to obey that principle or he would slay me.” (1905 BYU Testimony of Mary Elizabeth Lightner)

-oahspe teaches against saviors and gods born of woman. (find quotes) I believe the doctrine and covenants is trying to teach the same principle… that christ was a living archetype of Jehovah. This teaching seems anti-christian at first and offended me. but the more I meditate on this, the more I see it is true and is a teaching Joseph Smith, and the Doctrine and Covenants is trying to slowly get gentile christianity to understand. Jesus, was a type of the father. Jehovah, is the name given to the most hight God, etc//

1 Hear, O ye heavens, and give ear, O earth, and rejoice ye inhabitants thereof, for [Jehovah] is God, and beside him there is no Savior. (D&C 76:1)

-whole thrust of righteousness in oahspe supports Joseph smiths teaching that the Zion community is the hallmark of true religion.

-god requires discipline…

-oahspe’s view of solar system traveling in a circuit and falling under the dominion of god is very similar to Abraham cosmology.

09/1.1. First, the earth travels in a circuit around the sun, which is divided into four arcs called spring, summer, autumn and winter.
09/1.2. Second, the sun, with his family, travels in a large circuit, which is divided into one thousand five hundred arcs, the distance for each arc being about three thousand years, or one cycle.
09/1.3. During a cycle, the earth and her heavens travel through the etherean regions of hundreds of etherean worlds, which are inhabited by Jehovah’s high raised angels, whose Chiefs are involved in the management of worlds.
09/1.4. During the time of a cycle, the earth is therefore under the control and management of such angels of Jehovah for the resurrection of man of the earth.

-etherean worlds (inhabited inside and out) are Joseph Smith’s Celestial Worlds or “like see of glass”.

-Atmospherea is Mormonism’s terestial kingdom.

-Both Oahspe and the Law of One detail how terrestrial beings use technology. They use “fire ships” or spacecraft to travel, and use solar currents, etc.. But that Celestial beings can travel by “thought” using a “line of light”.

-Joseph Smith taught that when the lord comes “many will think it is a star, a commet, etc.. but it will be the lord”. Oahspe details how this comes about, and how celestial words do indeed look like stars.

-Oahspe teaches that North America will be Zion or the land the Millennial Kingdom

-Oahspe teaches of Pan that was destroyed by flood, and details how this occurred, and that is was essentially where the Americas are now, even though Japan is the closest remnant.

-Oahspe teaches much about the Jaredite culture which it calls the “Algonquin” people. It tells of the founder which sounds like the brother of Jared.

-Oahspe’s temple rites are similar to Mormon one.

-Oahspe teaches that the “most high god” is a “great spirit” or a god not born of woman who is a composite of all that is, and that it is lower “Gods” who manage our world who are “born of woman”. The book of Mormon teaches this too…

26 And then Ammon said: Believest thou that there is a Great Spirit?
27 And he said, Yea.
28 And Ammon said: This is God. And Ammon said unto him again: Believest thou that this Great Spirit, who is God, created all things which are in heaven and in the earth?
29 And he said: Yea, I believe that he created all things which are in the earth; but I do not know the heavens.
30 And Ammon said unto him: The heavens is a place where God dwells and all his holy angels.
31 And king Lamoni said: Is it above the earth?
32 And Ammon said: Yea, and he looketh down upon all the children of men; and he knows all the thoughts and intents of the heart; for by his hand were they all created from the beginning.
(Alma 18:26–32)

Those whose faith is in a most high god who loves all his children equally and believe god just wants people to live a good life in peace and harmony to others, need not worry. They will enter Jehovah’s kingdom when they die.

25/42.5. But be attentive to My Chosen, the Believers (Faithists), in all parts of heaven and earth; not letting one of them fall into the hells of My enemies.

Note: This came to me in a dream. For those with whom Oahspe resonates more than Modern Mormonism, you should consider the possibility that Mormonism was begun by the true messengers/angels of Jehovah, but that it was quickly high jacked by angels of the lower heavens. This would include the stealing of the 116 pages of the Book of Mormon and replacing it with a channeled version of the same text which supports the doctrines of Leomalang instead of Jehovah and the Great Spirit. This explaining why parts of the book are wrong, like the date of the final battle, and the coming of Christ. Because the text was channeled by Ixtlilxochitl and other well-meaning angels of the lower heavens under the influence of Leomalang. I personally am not entirely sure what to believe concerning the particulars of which parts are right/wrong of both Oahspe & Mormonism, as I believe they both have truth and error.

The Mormon Temple Ceremony and FreeMasonry

ancient-temple

Freemasonry’s Ancient Origins

The idea that masonic ritual originated in the 15th or 17th centuries is an ignorant one. Although it might be said that the modern freemasonry organization, as it is presently constituted, is a modern invention– much of the symbolism, ritual and tradition come from far older traditions. Many aspects can be definitively traced back through medieval orders like the Knights Templar to Roman Mithraism and then back to Persian/Armenian religious ritual and Egyptian mystical religious traditions.

If you haven’t looked into the early Roman Mithraic cults of Europe, you need to read the Wikipedia article now. After that, take a look at this article on the Mithras Liturgy. (Which you can read a second or third century version of here). Also take a look at the Greek Magical Papyri. As well as the texts at the end of this article which include the texts of several temple rites dating back to Egyptian times.

Masonic books like “Morals and Dogma” detail the Scottish rite’s masonic interpretation of human development and evolution of the Jewish and Christian religions. The allegory of the killing of Hyrum Abiff, illustrates the manner in which the wise religious builder is all too often murdered by the ignorant religious builders and sycophants.

Freemasonry claims to be derived from ancient rites and teachings of very early origin (Egyptian, Phoenician and early Jewish sources). Evidence of the Egyptian and Jewish roots can be read in The Sons of Fire scroll in The Kolbrin from ~700-1200 BC, which is an Egpto-Jewish temple ritual used by the ‘Sons of Light’ cult in iron age (druid) Britain. see also Morals and Dogma by Robert Pike for some of Freemasonry’s claims.

More ‘evidence’ of the ancient nature of religious temple rites in connecting mortals with the righteous OR wicked spirits of the dead (depending on one’s aims) can be found in the ‘Historical Rites and Ceremonies Section’ of Oahspe at this link.

Understanding the Mormon Endowments Masonic Roots

If you take the time to read the references given below it quickly become clear that the LDS endowment ritual is likely NOT the same rituals used by many ancient near-eastern or even Jewish cultures. But the concepts it teaches are, along with the basic format of religious initiation. Oahspe makes it clear that most major religions on earth that are bound to heavenly groups contain some type of ritualistic initiation rite.

Reference Material

-Read the actual freemasonry rituals upon which it is loosely based. DUNCAN’S RITUAL AND MONITOR OF FREEMASONRY. Found at SacredTexts.com This will help you get a feel for which parts are Josephs and which parts are exactly copied from freemasonry.

– Read a great background of freemasonry’s purposes and history from Egypt to Israel. The Hidden Life in Freemasonry by C. W. Leadbeater This should help you see how the freemasonry rituals relate to both ancient Israel and Egypt. It will hopefully also give you some knowledge of religious mysticism which is essential to see through the symbolism.

-Read about the mystic religious rituals and ceremonies from many past cultures and dispensations (both good and evil). Historical Rites and Ceremonies Section of Oahspe. This should make it clear that sacred mystic rituals change with each culture. And that there are many evil organizations who highjack the ceremonies of the good and use them to form organizations whose aim is to murder, steal and attain highly selfish goals. The LDS endowment differs from the ancient Israel one, which differs from the Egyptian one, which differed from the Jaredite (algonquin) and other ancient American cultures. This account also helps to show the relation between heaven and earth and the principle which the gods, angels and men involved are trying to teach.

Modern LDS Connections to Existing Secret Societies

I’m not going to apply meaning to the following information. And note, I’m an active traditional LDS member and think its likely Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism intended to adapt freemasonry into Mormonism to good purposes and to openly connect ALL worthy members to the Spirits of the Righteous. However, I suspect some leaders of Mormonism through the years have become entangled in wicket secret groups with opposite aims. I’d like to believe that Modern Mormon leaders are doing their best to be a force for good in society.

But I do want to lay the following out for everyone to see, to let everyone form their own conclusions concerning the secret societies which exist among the powerful of our society.

The Skull & Bones was a secret society not unlike freemasonry. Except that it more closely appears to be modeled after the Mithraic cults which Took over Rome. If you’ve never read about these you can read about them in these articles.

Note that Russell M. Nelson admits in his autobiography that he was also a member of both these secret societies: https://archive.org/details/from-heart-to-heart-an-autobiography-russell-m.-nelson/page/n31/mode/2up?q=%22skull+and+bones%22

Note that Joseph Smith’s Book of Mormon teaches strongly against ‘secret combinations’ and prophesies that they would exist among our latter-day society. It does not teach against, and in fact says little about religious temple rites. It does teach that a temple like the Jewish temple of Solomon was built among the ancient inhabitants of America, and we can assume that Jewish style temple rites existed in that temple. It does not suggest that there should not be an initiate process to allow only the righteous to access sacred temple rites. However it DOES teach against rites which are secret and accessible only to the rich or a small selected group of secret elect.

“18 And it came to pass that they formed a secret combination, even as they of old; which combination is most abominable and wicked above all, in the sight of God;
19 For the Lord worketh not in secret combinations, neither doth he will that man should shed blood, but in all things hath forbidden it, from the beginning of man.
20 And now I, Moroni, do not write the manner of their oaths and combinations, for it hath been made known unto me that they are had among all people, and they are had among the Lamanites.
21 And they have caused the destruction of this people of whom I am now speaking, and also the destruction of the people of Nephi.

22 And whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain, until they shall spread over the nation, behold, they shall be destroyed; for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of his saints, which shall be shed by them, shall always cry unto him from the ground for vengeance upon them and yet he avenge them not.
23 Wherefore, O ye Gentiles, it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you, which are built up to get power and gain—and the work, yea, even the work of destruction come upon you, yea, even the sword of the justice of the Eternal God shall fall upon you, to your overthrow and destruction if ye shall suffer these things to be.
24 Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up.

25 For it cometh to pass that whoso buildeth it up seeketh to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries; and it bringeth to pass the destruction of all people, for it is built up by the devil, who is the father of all lies; even that same liar who beguiled our first parents, yea, even that same liar who hath caused man to commit murder from the beginning; who hath hardened the hearts of men that they have murdered the prophets, and stoned them, and cast them out from the beginning.
26 Wherefore, I, Moroni, am commanded to write these things that evil may be done away, and that the time may come that Satan may have no power upon the hearts of the children of men, but that they may be persuaded to do good continually, that they may come unto the fountain of all righteousness and be saved.  (Book of Mormon, Ether 8:18–26)

Commentary on the LDS Articles of Faith

LDS Articles of Faith with my commentary

1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

All of these are profound esoteric symbols of which volumes could be written. They are not simplistic dogmatic statements of one sided mortal-like individuals. God is the Creator and the Creation . He is a composite of all that is . He is in the Sun, moon and stars and the power by which they were made. He is in the Galaxy and the power by which it was made and so forth. He is all of creation. We are His “members” and a part of him much like a body is formed of many cells (D&C 88:6–13, Acts 17:28–29, Col. 1:16–19, Romans 12:5, John 15:1–7, John 17:11,21). All descriptions of Him end in paradox. All descriptions of him are partial and distorted by human perception. He is Father/Mother because he is Creator. He is Eternal because He dwells apart from time or relative mortal dimensions. Mankind knows Him only through what they can perceive of him… what He has revealed of himself to us. The Creation & Creator reveals itself through the symbol of the Son (Hebrews 1:1–3). The Son is Created yet also contains the power to Create, yet the Son is also Eternal. The Son is less than the Father (John 14:28) and yet since the Father is a composite of all that exists, the Son is part of the Father and thus One with and equal with the Father (John 14:8–11). The Son (created thing) reveals the Father (creator/creation). Jesus Christ is a living archetype or symbol sent by the Creator to teach us about creation and ourselves. Christ means Messiah or Anointed One. Jesus (or better translated Joshua) means loosely Jehovah is Savior. The Lord God is Jehovah Elohim. Jehovah is the Name given to the creator by the ancients because it contained the most three fundamental sounds Ye-Ho-Vih (see Oahspe). Elohim is a plural form of the Word “El” meaning God. Yet despite its plural form it is always used in a singular context showing the paradox of God’s Singularity and Plurality. A concept the GodHead also is trying to teach. Since God the Creator is a composite of all that exists, He is many. Yet since all his Creation is a part of Him just as cells in an organism or Members/limbs in our body He is One. Since the God’s who deal with our earth in the galactic scheme are perfect microcosms of the God’s above them and They presumably act in unison and form a chain which leads through infinity to the Most High God, we wrap them all into a term which is both singular and plural. El-ohim. Jesus was one of many mediators sent to help us relate to the Creator. To save us from the darkness of ignorance by revealing the creator. Just like all of us, He was the Son of God and yet he was God because like all of us He is a part of creation. Thus like the Elohim he is both Father and Son (Mosiah 15:1–5). To truly understand God and our full relationship to God is impossible for mortal man with his limited perceptions. But by understanding the microcosm of human parent and child we better understand macrocosm of eternity and our relationship with it.

2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.

In other words we believe the concept of original sin as taught by the Medieval Christian churches is a convoluted and corrupted version of a true principle. Much like the “God-Head”, the creation drama taught in Exodus 1-3 is a historical allegory meant to teach us very profound philosophical concepts concerning the purpose and destiny of mankind. (By historical allegory I mean we believe it really happened in some place at some time, but its historical accuracy or reality were not important to the writer, as the revelator’s goal was to teach eternal philosophical concepts which play out again and again throughout history, not to give details of some one-time historical incident). Go into detail about how the creation drama relates to original sin, that mankind is lost because we have been veiled from a knowledge of our true character as part of god, so we need to be redeemed or saved from our own ignorance. Salvation comes form seeing our relation to all of creation. Redeemed from our pride and ego that suggests we are gods or the most or only intelligent life in our planet, solar system or galaxy; and thus not accountable to the rest of creation for ways our actions effect others/the creation. Redeemed from ignorance which allows us to be oppressed by more powerful individuals and beings. Redeemed from the veil which hides the knowledge of our unity with creation which makes us part of God and indeed “a god”. So the concept that we are a lost and fallen people is true, and in need of the truth of our reality which brings redemption from ignorance. But the Medieval Christian churches convoluted these profound philosophical truths into practices which suggested that if a person dies without baptism, they are damned to some tortuous Hell. They did not see that the ritual of baptism had no power to save us from ignorance (which is essentially the meaning of and reason for “Hell”), but that baptism was a symbol pointing us to the idea that we can be “raised” from the death slumber which is ignorant mortal life. More on this later.

3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

We believed mankind may be saved, but saved from what? Saved from separation. It is separation which causes all negative aspects of mortal life.

4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

The ritual of baptism had no power to save us from ignorance (which is essentially the meaning of and reason for “Hell”), but that baptism was a symbol pointing us to the idea that we can be “raised” from the death slumber which is ignorant mortal life. It is the redemption from the grave which is a symbol of mortal life. As

5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

My Articles of Faith
If I was going to write out my personal beliefs or my personal articles of my faith, I think this is what they would be (at least at the time of writing this… I would image they change from year to year).

1. Agency or preserving the ability of all men to exercise free will is the first principle of the gospel. All other doctrines and principles are inferior appendages to this.

2. Unity in selfless service or love is our goal & desire. We wish to convince all men to use their agency to choose good; which we define as unity through selfless service or love of others. It is the central theme of our religion.

3. Wisdom, light and knowledge of truth are the prize and outcome of unity through selfless service. One day I believe these principles will unites us with even those who seek to progress through the illusory path of selfishness or putting love of self before love of others.

4. I believe in the ONE God. A God who is Father and Creator to the earth and all mankind. I believe God creates through repeating processes of separation and unification, which makes existence possible and meaningful. I believe division of mankind has been the prevailing system of creation on earth for many thousands of years, but our hope is in the Good News sent by God through many messengers teaching that the age of prevailing global unification is upon us. We seek to serve with God toward this global unity through selfless service.

5. I believe the ONE creator to the Human Race has played a part in revealing ALL religion and science to mankind. I believe his purposes were sometimes to unite and other times to divide. I believe as the prophesied era of unification unfolds, He is now maintaining and upholding those religions and sciences which show they can unify mankind through selfless service. We seek the maintenance of the Creator through His active force.

6. I believe in direct communion with the ONE creator of all that exists. We also believe in many mediators who stand between the ONE creator and the MANY creations, attempting to explain Him in concepts people can understand. I believe Christ was the quintessential mediator of this epoch in teaching the ways of love. We also believe that Buddha, Mohammed and all other great religious leaders were mediators of the Creator. We also believe in chains of higher mediators not of this world. I believe all mediators point the way to unity with the Father or ONE creator. I believe communion takes place through God’s Holy Spirit and Divine Energy/Light.

7. I believe mankind has an innate desire to know his Creator. I believe in this quest the pride of mankind leads him to idolize, rigidly define and depict their Creator and HIS will. I believe the desire of a child to pretend he can accurately explain his Parent most often leads to division. I believe that the best way to know the creator is through selflessly serving each other. I believe that by truly understanding each other and the creation we come to better understand the Creator God. We call upon all scientific and religious institutions to put selflessly serving and understanding others before, above and ahead of trying to prove the correctness of their own perspectives. I believe it is this attitude which enabled the Creator’s messengers and prophets to be so successful in creating lasting ideological systems which teach mankind of their Creator.

8. I believe Creeds, tenants and rules have a tendency to divide even as they seek to unite. For those who find these words divisive, we invite you to rewrite them in your minds in a way that becomes unifying instead of selfishly interpreting them in a way that divides. I believe that through the Spirit all mankind can find the truth which unifies in all things. Again I believe the key is selfless service in love.

9. I believe that all social norms and commandments given through the Creator’s unifying Mediators were calculated to encourage the practice of unity through selflessness. I believe the selfishness of mankind tends to distort the original goal of these regulations, adding to them and turning them into practices and traditions which foster self-righteousness, oppression, disharmony and division. I believe this is why new mediators must be sent from time to time to overturn traditional political and religious organizations when they no longer fulfill their intended unifying purposes. I believe it is a best practice to keep rigid rules and regulations to a minimum. To preserve free will at all costs. To keep religious and political regulatory bodies as close to a local level as possible. To teach selfless principles and truly let local polities govern themselves as much as possible; in matters of worship, assembly, sexual practices & marriage, food & substance consumption, commerce and speech.

10. No mortal can really understand God because God IS creation of which we are only a minuscule part. God is the creator of all that is, and in fact IS ALL creation. We are but a tiny cell of his body. To understand him would be to understand all that exists which is not possible for a mortal mind. But we can see patterns in creation which help us to see a part of creation much larger than ourselves. The microcosm or fractal nature of matter.

11. We believe the purpose and destiny of the LDS Church was foreshadowed by story of Joseph and the Twelve Tribes of Israel in the Bible. We believe some aspect of the LDS Church will have the privilege if worthy and desiring of gathering and aiding the twelve tribes of Israel, just as Joseph gathered his brothers and gave them bread, saving them from famine. As God blesses us with power and influence it is our desire to use these things to bless the world and save them from disaster even as Joseph saved Egypt. We believe in the equality and brotherhood of all man, and that those who are abused and weakest are destined to become the most powerful and strong, while those who esteem themselves as greatest and most powerful are destined to become weak and humbled.

===============================================================

-care for the poor and needy, perfect the saints, redeem the dead, preach the gospel.

-allow for more agency. less division and more unification. The world divides enough, Christ united. It is the age of unity. If it was HIS church for the millennium it would be about universal principles. Not about HIM, not about Christianity, not about rules that divide, but principles that unite.

-Christ’s church would actually teach every religion. It would utilize ALL the worlds scripture and prophets to bring people together into one organization that promoted unity. Exaltation would depend on unity.

-Should it not teach the two paths? No. As this religion is trying to bring the world into becoming a positive terrestrial realm it would teach the left hand selfish path as undesirable. It would allow its existence within limits. It would seek to convert those following this path to the positive. A celestial understanding cannot abide in a terrestrial glory. We are bringing people into the terrestrial glory.

Death… How to deal with it.

death-homer

I read a facebook post that made me think a bit about death today. Its a topic I’v ruminated on many times over the past decade or so. A facebook post of a friend’s sister who lost their teenage daughter unexpectedly made the pain of death real again for me.

The Pain
Its not rare that I get a bit frustrated with this world and wonder what the heck I’m doing here. Sixteen years ago my dad was killed. For sixteen years I’v searched for answers. For sixteen years I’v studied the scriptures, I’v studied life after death experiences, I’v studied history, New Age, the mystics, the occult. I’v consulted the oracles and communed with the spirits. “Every answer found, begs another question… The further you go, the less you know. The less I know.”

Graduation. Less than a year from departure.

So at any rate, I thought I’d give my current perspective on this old question of Hosea’s. Death… where is thy sting? Well, from the conscious perspective of my eighteen year old mind… it’s still here. I know Christ was supposed to have swallowed up the sting of death in his resurrection, but if that’s the case why does death hurt like Hell? I’v been stung by a bee, and by a wasp. I was not a cautious teen and Iv been badly hurt more times than i can count. Broken bones, knee surgery, and whats worse I’v been tortured into eating asparagus on multiple occasions and I can certainly say that the unexpected death of a loved one before their time was infinitely more painful. In the years after my dad died (just after my graduation from high school) The pain was persistent, chronic and systemic. For at least one year I could not think about my Dad without either uncontrollably bawling or having to muster all my energy to lock in the flood of emotions and seal them in. And each time they would flow, how could you describe it other than pain? Like someone was taking a dagger, stabbing it into your heart and twisting for as long as the wave lasted. Perhaps that is a bit graphically over dramatic but for those who have experience it, how else do you describe it? I

The Why
– I have a lot of ideas on what it is that makes death “painful”. I think much of it is fear. Fear of the unknown.

-I think much of it pain born from the group consciousness. Because so many deaths throughout history have been painful and even gruesome, the group consciousness has developed a repulsion for it. We are tied to the group mind which corresponds to our level of consciousness, and thus are greatly influenced by it’s learned reactions. The “group mind” or psycho-spiritual connection between humans is worthy of an article of itself.

-I think much of it IS a break in that psycho-spiritual connection. Science hasn’t come to fully understand this concept yet, but humans are mentally connected in many subtle ways. Loosing someone close can be akin to having part of our brains removed, because our brains and other aspects of our biology come to depend on our social networks in a very real biological manner. There are subtle electromagnetic transponders and receivers in the human biology. Scientist are just recently coming to find definite evidence of these biological mechanisms in animals (salmon for example). We come to rely on eachother in psychological ways that are rooted in our biology, and when part of our emotional support system is removed, it can truly be like loosing a biological member of our body. We must learn to psychologically function without them in a manner very similar to one having to learn to walk with just one leg after loosing the other.

-the rest of it is the purely obvious. It just sucks not to be able to hang out with someone you’re used to hanging with. But those who have experienced multiple death experiences understand how minimally this can account for the pain. When my grandparents died I thought, “man it sucks i’m not going to be hanging out with her or talk to her on the phone for 60-80 years”. But there was no huge emotional reaction. It was like they were going on a long wonderful trip, which sucked a bit but I was happy for them and the whole process was natural and not very painful. Compare that to when my dad died, who I also did not interact with a whole lot or consciously lean on for emotional support. It was 1000 times more painful… why? I believe only the psycho-spiritual connection can explain the difference.

The Solutions
Solution 1: However, one can overcome the pain associated with these phenomenon. We chose who we make our psychosomatic connections with. If our primary connections are with mortals, we will be pained when they leave us. This is a huge topic and difficult to explain. It requires an understanding of the subtle realms. If you have no belief in or connection to the subtle realms the only way to avoid the pain of death is to shut off your subtle senses to all human connection. “harden your heart” as a religionist would say. If you love no-one, and let no one in, perhaps you can avoid the pain when you loose them.

Solution 2: A far better way however is to learn to connect and derive your energy from the subtle realms. “live by the spirit” as scripture would say. The greater your ability at connecting with the subtle (spiritual) realms, the less death will affect these connections and the less you will suffer. There are so many ways to explain what happens to people when they die. You can envision them going to a “Spirit World” (which millions of near death experiences would show that this is how it appears from their perspective- see nderf). You can envision the personality aspect of their consciousness reabsorbing into the earth’s electro-magnetic field (this is how it would appear from our perspective has we technological instrumentation with the ability to read and follow the subtle fields). Eventually I believe the whole phenomenon will be most understandably described by multidimensionality in the universe and the holographic nature of reality.

-the bottom line is taught in nearly every religion and symbolized by the creation drama of Christianity. At the most subtle level and the most primordial time, all is and was one. At some point “God” divided or separated this oneness into many-ness. The heavens from the earth, the waters from the land, the light from the dark, male and female from androgynous man. The process of “creation” is in fact a process of division or separating from the eternal unity that is and was the “most-high god”. When one understands that the “most-high god” is a composite of all that is (see D&C 88:7–13, Acts 17:28), it maintains the understanding that we too are God’s members, one with God as a hand is one with a body (1 Corinthians 12:12, John 15:1–7, John 17:21–23 ). At some point in the dividing process mankind itself was separated from God, loosing the connection in consciousness which unifies all things. Kicked from the Garden and veiled by flesh and ego from unity man lost the ability to “see” and communicate with the rest of creation in all its dimensions. This psychic separation from each-other or “fall” in consciousness gave death its sting. And to be “redeemed” is to remember we are one and regain conscious awareness of the rest of creation. To replace mere physical connections with more subtle spiritual connections. Connections to and awareness of the rest of earth, connected awareness of the earth’s subtle realms, and awareness of the cosmos. This connected awareness is accessed in the opposite manner as mentioned above; it requires opening our “hearts” or biological receivers to others and all of creation. As we begin to psychologically dissolve the perceived differences between ourselves and others/otherness we will begin to regain unity. We must put away our ego which suggests we are different and separate (better or worse) than others. The ego which suggests the world of holographic illusion perceived by our physical senses is actually the highest “reality”.

If we “see” by the light of the moon, we see the world but dimly. If we see by the light of the sun we see only a little bit better because we are still perceiving only a small spectrum of reality through the biological mechanism which interprets visible light for us. We must use our more subtle “extra sensory” biological mechanisms to “perceive” the more subtle wavelengths of the electromagnetic field which make up true reality.

Those who go through painful experiences of death and separation are at a real advantage here. These individuals are confronted with a reality that most chose to ignore; the reality of the painful unknown. Although there are some who chose solution one, most who those who go through this experience ask why? They ask where? They persistently look for answers and in years of deep searching they are led to solution two. If you look into the backgrounds of those who truly have meaningful things to contribute to humanities view of reality, you will find loss and painful experiences. You will find trails or catalysts which motivated individuals to search and progress. And you will find individuals who in hindsight would not trade those experiences for the world.

But How?
How do we stop the pain? The first step is to stop fighting it, and just accept it. The next is to objectively analyze it and find the beauty and information embedded in it. If when the pain comes, you focus on the separation and what you have lost you will reinforce the separation and loss. Search closely through the pain and find the love embedded in it. Rip off all the aspects of selfishness and ego clouding the emotional waves and you will find at their root pure unselfish love. Likely a stronger love than you have ever experienced. Once you see the love let it flow through you, and send it back to your loved one.

If you find yourself unable to consider life after death perhaps you need to start by acknowledging the existence of the unknown. This takes putting away your pride/ego and is the hallmark of a true scientist or truth seeker. Acknowledge that everything you know is almost certainly an incomplete understanding of just a portion of a greater reality. Become a child with a sense of wonder at the immensity of things out there still to be discovered. Stop trying to see only with your eyes, hear with only your ears and understand with your intellect. Realize that it is the mind that processes these signals into a “reality”, and that same mind has access to other biological mechanisms that perceive input as “feelings” and thoughts which are more subjective, but no less “real” than the signals received by conventional senses. Realize you do not have to “see” or talk to a loved one, in order to connect and communicate with them. Find a still place and enjoy the connection without words or images, simply turn your consciousness to them and feel the interactive connection. Realize that when you feel pain associated with loss, it is almost always a reaction of ego and pride. It is ego which maintains the illusion of separation. Read as many life after death experiences as possible and you’ll see that everyone has a different reality. Understand that among the living, your perception of reality can be quite different from other’s perception of reality and this becomes more apparent after death because the planes/dimensions above this one are more fluid. As we raise, or outer reality becomes more a reflection of our inner reality. On earth a person could outwardly perceive a rich man as happy and a poor man as miserable, yet by really getting to know those individuals we could learn that the rich man is miserable and the poor man is happy. From life after death experiences it would appear that we inherit a world where our outer reality is a projection of our inner reality. The same is true on earth, but the delay time is far greater. A bad attitude WILL manifest in a perceived bad experience but in some cases in may take a while;

The Lower & Higher Priesthoods

This article is convoluted. Rewrite.

“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction... (James 1:27)”

Introduction

Organized earthly religion is a schoolmaster or preparatory gospel that tries to bring us up to a higher form or truer, heavenly religion; which is essentially a harmonic, balanced life which is at-one or unified with all of creation. The truths of this principle are hidden in the scriptures and symbols of all earthly religion–but more especially in the LDS Church and temple ceremony.  Most LDS members are well aware of the offices, functions, duties and responsibilities of the two main divisions of the priesthood–the Aaronic and Melchizedek. However, many may not realize the important principles that the liturgy concerning these priesthoods is trying to convey.  Were these concepts better understood, many of the problems inherent in organized religion could be resolved. In fact, all of the issues surrounding the apostasy of medieval Christianity and needed reformation and restorationism movements are dealt with in this symbolism.

Organized religion’s goal is to create a people who do not need organized religion. To create a people who can live in zionistic harmonious communities led directly by personal revelation from the creator with no need for intermediate kings, priests, popes, rituals, principalities, rigid laws, armies, prisons or presidents.  A people who are in all ways one with eachother and one with God. This is the blessed state of those in the highest heavens who we call god and the destiny which all the worlds religions (and especially mormonism) teaches in their creation dramas, priesthood organizations, scriptural stories and a myriad of other ways.

The Lower & Higher Priesthoods

The LDS Doctrine and Covenants describes things well in D&C 84 when describing the differences and symbolism behind these priesthoods. In v. we see that the “higher” priesthood holds the keys to the mysteries of the knowledge of God and seeks to help man “see the face of God”.  Through learning the principles of these mysteries Moses was able to regain God’s presence and talk with him face to face—and he sought to help the Children of Israel do so as well. But because Israel was unbelieving, hard-hearted, and simply not ready God gave them a “lower or preparatory priesthood” and religion to help them along their spiritual journey. And so it is with all earthly organized religion.  It is a lower or preparatory system devised to help people learn to re-enter God’s garden; a schoolmaster as Hebrews puts it, to bring us up to Christ.

The higher priesthood essentially has one goal; to re-unite us with God. By descending into flesh mankind has forgotten who God is and what he stands for. Passing through the veil we forget that our source is God and our destiny is God.  We were a part of God and we will be a part of Him again once we raise our consciousness and ‘overcome’ the psychological obstacles which keep us from Unity with the divine.  Religion is not God, nor is it expressly his organization. The

Outline.

In the Mosaic Law

-aaron built an idol, so god made him a priest of the lower priesthood to give israel the idol they desired.

In the Temple Drama

-the garden drama symbolizes this also, lucifer offered adam and eve ‘the law’ which is the knowledge of good and evil. This kabalistic tree of knowledge, stands in opposition to the tree of life. To be fully redeamed is to be ‘one’ with god, or in his presence. When we obtain knowlege from a mediator, we become blinded by him and he becomes our god. We are blinded because mediators take us away from the higher god (kicked out of the garden and god’s presence). In the LDS creation drama & temple depiction Satan becomes very angry when he is ‘cursed’ for giving knowledge of the law (good and evil) to adam and eve. Why do you think he is so mad, when he is simply excersizing his ‘priestly right’, doing what is done ‘in other worlds’? Because he thought he was being righteous and doing the will of the Father! Much like Aaron & his posterity, when many in religion find they are cursed for spending so much time and energy ‘giving religion’ to the posterity of Adam and Eve (doing what they thought was God’s will) they to may get angry and rebel.

In Paul’s Teachings

-Paul was all about teaching this lesson.  Law worketh death, spirit breatheth life.

In Joseph Smith’s Teachings

Joseph Smith compared the gospel program to building a temple (find quote, sprit of elias, spirit of elijah is cap stone). Essentially we are building an idol or a making a sacrifice and in the end we are going to have learned a lot about ourselves and eachother, and then we will set it on fire and watch it burn. Just like any of our earthly posesions and creations, those who can’t let go will arrrest thier own progress and quite possibly turn into bitter enemies of god. We must learn that God can not be housed in buildings built by human hands, but only in our hearts. His law cant be held by tablets of stone, but by tablets of our hearts. We will etrnally rise, but our church organizations will fall. (song, we’re going to let it burn, burn, burn)..

-true religion is this, to feed the hungary, visit the fatherless…

-start by talking about the symbolizm of the two priesthoods

[make chart comparing two priesthoods, showinging temple spires symbols, etc..]
-there is a lower and higher priesthood. these are symbolized by the LDS aaronic and melchezidek. the aaronic is over the “outward ordinances” of the law, the melchezidek is over spiritual things. “outward ordinances” are things meant to point people toward the inward or true meaning of the law or ‘spirit’ of the law. It is a schoolmaster.

-this relationship is symbolized by the ‘temporal’ (earthly) and ‘spiritual’ (heavenly) aspects of these priesthoods (ref). Thus earthly religion and most especially all physical ordinances and ritualistic aspects of religion are part of the lower law or priesthood.

-these two priesthoods also symbolize the terrestrial and celestial. The earthly religions are ruled by terrestrial beings, and since the terrestrial glory has mixed polarity, it is administered by both positive and negative beings. God and Lucifer.
-the higher law has two counsels, love god and love your neighbor. The lower has a mutitude of ‘shalls and shall nots’

-once you chizel a law in stone, it looses much of its redemptive power.

-organized religion, is not true religion. The tao tries to teach this… the tao that can be named, is not the true toa, etc… (quote this)

-one of christ’s temptations was to make himself a political king, the other was to make himself a religious leader.

-D&C 121 shows this paradox ‘no power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood’. Well to fully live that there can be no ‘visible’ priesthood. If you have a structured governmental prieshtood organized which regulates through laws and strictures then you have a priesthood which is maintaining power or influence by virtue of priesthood organization.
TAKE AWAY POINT.
As soon as you stand between god and man, you block man’s view of god–unless you are invisible or exactly like god. This is the symbolism that the trinity is trying to teach (that christ is in the express image of the father), but the truth is that all mediators distort the light. like a prism dividing the light into 7 or 12 colors. they try to ‘bring us up to’ the father, but in reality they distort the light (oahspe quote on religion).
-Start with the mystic cosmology? (from Aquarian gospel?) In the beginning there was only unity, this unified singularity was God. From the one came two, and the two bore a son who was the third. From these three came the seven and from the seven all that is. It was only after the seven (symbolized by the seven Elohim and seven creation periods) that good and evil was born. Before the Fall of Man there was no good or evil… all was of God and all was good.

-These two polarities of good and evil can be pictured on a continuum… t In their most primal sense, good is that which tends to unity and harmony. Evil is that which tends toward disharmony, entropy and chaos. Let’s define “progression” as the paths that tend toward unity.

-On the path of progression to the destination of unity, there are two roads; service to self (selfishness) and service to others (selflessness). These are the left and right hand paths.

-these are symbolized by the Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthoods; the universal governance structures.

-they can be visualized as side by side or as one leading to the other.

-Each form of government exists on a continuum epitomized by these paths at the extremes. These two paths are explained well in the “Law of One” material, but proven in human history. They are symbolized by the Lion and the Lamb of scripture. (The Lion of Judah and Lamb of Joseph, the Lamb of Christ and Lion of the pseudo-Christ).

On one side is service-to-others governments. This is a government where freedom and agency are respective above all. It is rule of law by love and freedom. It is consensus driven system where all energy, resources and power are equally shared. This is the law Christ brought and in its purest form requires that all participants be at least 51% selfless, or willing to put another’s will above their own in any confrontation of wills. Even one selfish person can destroy this government (because all the selfless will submit their wills for his/her desire for power and resources). This does not exist on telestial earth but is the government of the upper heavens and the goal of all true Christians. Democracy on earth tries to emulate this government as much as possible according to the grade of selfishness/selflessness of the people. In this government people are so selfless that they are all equal and unified in all things. It has no need for a king or leader (like Israel during the reign of the judges), and if one is appointed he stays equal in power, authority and wealth with the people. In fact no one would allow themselves to be made a king or master for fear of what this would do the balance of power and self-determination of others. It is a hard concept for those on telestial earth to grasp because it is not possible in the telestial glory. In this realm the governments and religions have to have aspects of top-down governance in both our political and religious systems in order to regulate the selfish populace.

On the other extreme is service-to-self governments. These are top down governance systems which put force over agency. Since in it’s purest form everyone puts themselves above all others this government is epitomized by the law of the jungle. The government structure which naturally forms among brutish beasts who have no concept of selfless giving. A hierarchy naturally forms where the strong rule over the week, the many over the few. The lions (elite) rule from a position of power and all the nations wealth/resources flow to them. They are dictatorships and monarchies. The head is tyrant and usually an egomaniac of which people like Hitler, Stalin, Mao are good examples. They believe themselves to be Gods and wish to be worshiped as such. When they die they often become false-gods ruling in the lower heavens. They deny the existence of any beings higher than them, calling themselves the “most high god”, when in fact they are at heart atheists. They rule by force with armies and in heaven become Lords of Hosts.

-the true God of this world (who in fact is more of a quorum or ruling body) always acknowledges the existence of the Father. The Father is a symbol of the infinite nature of conscious beings in the universe on top of being an actual representative from the star system currently nurturing us.

-the current true God of this world (who works on a scheduled rotation as Oahspe and the D&C teaches, allows people to chose which Gods they will follow, as he allowed the children of Israel to chose at the Mount of Sinai.

-the lower priesthood is a governmental structure ruled by lower more selfish gods, all of which follow the father in their own egotistical distorted ways.

-it is by the wicked that the wicked are punished, and similarly it is by the wicked that the wicked are ruled.

-when the children of Israel rejected the higher rule of the Melchizedek priesthood, they were given over to the lower Aaronic priesthood. Which is administered by much harsher Gods, who although regulated by earth’s “most high” God. Are themselves a bit tyrannical, but that’s what they wanted so that’s what god gave them.

-the God of the old testament is not a very nice guy. people who haven’t come to terms with that either haven’t actually read the old testament (or an understandable translation of it), are deluded (put me in this category) or they didn’t give any thought to what they were reading. The God of the old testament constantly threatens to kill off all of Israel. He institute laws where not only are perpetrators executed, they are brutally executed by their piers with stones. He wages an ethnic cleansing campaign against the inhabitants of the Holy Land. We justify that they were wicked, but really, so was Israel. (it is by the wicked that the wicked are punished). Curious where the principle of jihad comes from? Read the conquest of Joshua. The God of the old testament uses every governance principle used by the earth’s most nefarious dictators. From genocide, to infanticide. From a personality cult to a religious and political caste system. Their laws were often brutal and their freedoms few… all because this is what they wanted. It is all Israel was ready for.

-Aaron gave the people what they wanted… they wanted a god that could be seen, an idol like the Egyptians had.. so he gave it to them. He became their idolatrous priest, so God gave/cursed his posterity with the job of being idolatrous priests. The wanted the blood of scape-goats to cleanse them from sin, so God gave them the idolatrous law of sacrifice.

-the mosaic law was a lower law led by lower gods and lower priests, but it was a schoolmaster to lead them to the higher law.

-two towers of temple are symbols of two priesthoods (also symbolized by upper and lower chakras.)

Galactic Wave Interference Patterns and Their effect on Global Conciousness

Oaspe gives a very unique and informative cosmology. One of the most intriguing aspects of this cosmology is the concept of Dan Times. These are periods of time (averaging 3000 years), in which the solar system in it’s galactic orbit makes a complete cycle from a place of high spiritual energy and enlightenment through a space of spiritual darkness or entropy, and back.

1. First, the earth plieth in a circuit around the sun, which circuit is divided into four arcs called spring, summer, autumn and winter.
2. Second, the sun, with his family, plieth in a large circuit [around a governing creation], which is divided into one thousand five hundred arcs [dan-has], the distance of which for each arc is about three thousand years or one [harvest] cycle.
3. During a cycle, the earth and her heavens fall in the spiritual (etherean) regions of hundreds of spiritual (etherean) worlds, where dwell Jehovah’s high-raised angels, whose Chiefs have to do with the management of worlds.
4. During the time of a cycle, the earth is therefore under the control and management of such of Jehovah’s angels for the resurrection of man of the earth.

I have wondered over the years what cosmic phenomena this was describing and whether it had a basis in modern astro-physics. In my research lately I have found that it does and is very interesting.

-Cevorkum, roadway of solar phalanx. a, a, a, lines of different currents; b, b, b, transverse currents. The crossing denote the localities of the highest etherean light. The numbers with their signatures, show the densities through which the great serpent passes each cycle. The lines across the cevorkum denote a cycle of three thousand years, but overdrawn one thousand times in order to be apparent to the eye, i.e., one to 4,700,000

Plate 49 in Oahspe (above image) shows the “Arcs” of Dan as they radiate out through the universe. This pattern is a depiction of a wave interference pattern created on a equatorial plane of a torus. See this link to see these same patterns in the wave convergence lines of the galactic electromagnetic field. (see heading ‘cross section of a torus’)

When viewing a double spiral, what we’re looking at is actually the 2-dimensional pattern of the 3-dimensional (and 4D with time as flow process) field of a torus. It is the cross-section of the whole field which itself is double-spiraling around and throughout the torus, as well as along its central axis.

Thus the ‘light of dan’ or periods of dan, actually equate to electric field densities within the galactic plane. This whole philosophy taught in oashpe, that the position of the earth & solar system as it travels through the galactic plane, essentially dictates “righteousness” or “enlightnment” on earth or ignorance and dark ages goes well with what the D&C teaches in section 88. That essentially the power or ‘spirit’ of God is actually the same or at least embedded in electromagnetic energy.

7 Which truth shineth. This is the light of Christ. As also he is in the sun, and the light of the sun, and the power thereof by which it was made.
8 As also he is in the moon, and is the light of the moon, and the power thereof by which it was made;
9 As also the light of the stars, and the power thereof by which they were made;
11 And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your understandings;
12 Which light proceedeth forth from the presence of God to fill the immensity of space—
13 The light which is in all things, which giveth life to all things, which is the law by which all things are governed, even the power of God who sitteth upon his throne, who is in the bosom of eternity, who is in the midst of all things.

These verses are teaching the same principle that the Law of One (link) goes into such depth explaining. It is a difficult concept to grasp, and even harder to teach but the general idea is that intelligent life in the universe are all connected through the galactic electromagnetic field. Furthermore, all planetary consciousness is unified, and connected to the planet itself through the planets electromagnetic field. And there is a symbiotic relationship between the human group consciousness and the planetary “consciousness” which responds to the laws of physics sent out to it from the galactic core. And that human consciousness is connected to, and is influenced by solar, and especially galactic field density. Basically the galactic core sends out energy through its electromagnetic field, and embedded in this energy is data or intelligence. Thus the density or field strength affects how much ‘spirit’ or more specifically how much energy, light and intelligence humans have. So evolution is quickened by higher field densities and conversely entropy and retrogression is increased by lower field densities. Thus we are “connected” to God or the galactic core through the galactic electro-magnetic field.

Because the galactic core creates an oscillating magnetic filed, as our sun which is essentially a charged particle travels through it, a current is induced within it (see here for physics refreshers). Thus the current within our sun is also greatly affected by our position within the galactic field, and it’s 11 year magnetic field cycle is actually dictated by its position in galactic field. The “lay lines” or magnetic field lines illustrated in the figures above affect the suns intensity and thus the earth. More importantly, because the sun’s magnetic field creates interference waves, the stronger its field strength the less we can interact with the galactic field. This is why solar max, or the period in which the Sun’s field collapses during reversal is so critical to spiritual evolution and galactic space travel. (see Oahspe’s reference’s to 11 yr and 33 yr cycles). It is during the collapse of the earth & sun’s force fields (magnetic fields) that ships can travel to earth, and consciousness can interact with galactic sources. This is the ‘Times of Harvest’ spoken of in Oahspe and the Quarantine spoken of in the Law of One.

So the Arcs or Times of Dan in Oahspe are not stationary lights or planets, they are galactic interference patterns which create nodes that act as convergence points for trans-dimensional communication and travel. This is the “wave” headed toward earth that some new-ager’s talk about (actually earth is heading toward it, as much as it heading toward us). I’m not sure why our convergence with these waves causes a day of light (such as at Christ’s birth), but it likely has something to do with the induction of current in our ionosphere. Perhaps it essentially creates a global aurora because of the intensity of energized particles in the wave convergence.

Talk about how the fractal works? With torus’s created on field lines, embedded in bigger field lines?

04/7.2. || And Jehovah caused the earth, and the family of the sun to travel in an orbit, the circuit of which requires of them four million seven hundred thousand years. And He placed in the line of the orbit, at distances of [aprox] three thousand years, etherean lights, at which places, as the earth passes through, angels from the second heaven come into its corporeal presence. As ambassadors they come, in companies of hundreds, thousands, and tens of thousands, and these are called the etherean hosts of the Most High.
04/7.3. They come not as single individuals; nor do they come for a single individual mortal.

That humans could be seen as the ‘brain’ of the earth. On a higher plane, all planetary intelligence is connected through the electromagnetic field. That what religions refer to as “The Spirit World”, or what Oahspe refers to as “The Atmospherean Heavens” is a unifying plane of consciousness existing within the earth’s magnetic field. To those in our 3rd dimension we see it as a simply an energy field, barely perceptible in comparison to our ‘solid matter’ reality. However, on a quantum level once you understand that ‘solid matter’ is really only reinforcing wave interference patterns, you can see how by simply shifting one’s resonance, you can jump up a dimension what we perceive/measure as etheric electromagnetic fields from the perspective of our current dimension are actually ‘solid’, ‘material’ worlds in another dimension.

And that

Human Relationships & The Microcosmic Connection To Atomic Bonding

Left: Fractal pattern of a tree (tree of life), through its trunk, branches and twigs. At right: The Mandelbrot set is a popular example of a computer generated fractal.

I like to think that relationships or the bonding of people follow the same rules of physics as the relationships or bonding between atoms and cosmic bodies. That cosmic bodies, humans, and atoms all share a “fractal” (ie. microcosmic) relationship and thus share inherent similarities and adhere to similar physical laws.

Atomic and cosmic bonding, are of course governed and categorized by differences in energy potential. In humans we call this same potential energy attractive desire. We all have different polarities which dictate this attractive desire, and our level of polarization varies throughout our lives. Our relationships or human interactions become structured on the give and takes associated with our values/desires. It doesn’t take reading too many self help books to realize that its hard to categorize exactly what will make a good marriage or bonded relationship—because just like with atomic bonding, different people bond in radically different ways. As with cosmic bonds, there are a myriad of varieties of orbital types and likewise there are a handful of unique nuclear bonding strategies. There are likewise certain mixtures of these same type of fundamental attributes which can cause a lot of difficulties in relationships, and understanding our roles as well as the rules of physics and polarities which govern both atomic and human relationships can help individuals work through the difficulties of life.

Fractals. To really believe how science and the physics of the universe can apply to other aspects of human existence it helps to understand the principle of fractal cosmology. That is that our reality is holographic and is thus composed of remarkably similar units of differing scale. This idea of microcosm vs macrocosm is embedded into all religion and culture in types, symbols, shadows, natural allegory and comparisons with the natural world.

Charge or polarity. In reality all charge/polarity is relative. An atom becomes polarized in relation to itself when it has a different number of electrons than protons, or better put, when the charge of its energy field is different from the charge of its heart/core. This is called an ion. Another type of polarity is when neutral/stable atom is charged/polarized in relation to another atom. It is this polarity that forms the basis for inter-atom relationships, but more on that in a minute.

Inward/outward charge (ie protons/electrons) occurs when our outward life does not match our inward life or what’s in our hearts. This can occur at many different levels. For ALL those living in veiled earth, a polarity exists between our unveiled/higher-self (god/spirit) and our lower veiled conscious mind (ego/flesh). Further divisions can occur between our outward life (the parts of us we share with the world, or how people perceive us), and our inward life (what we really believe or how we see ourselves). Among troubled individuals even greater divisions can be created bringing about bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia where even our inward life has been divided into non-conjoining realities. The importance of this information is in the realization that these divisions exist in order to do WORK. The potential energy formed by polarization is how human progression or evolution occurs. Division creates a potential which is the source of all DESIRE, and desire is the motivating force behind all behavior. These potentials are what guide and control ALL our relationships.

In the same way that all molecules (relationships of two or more bonded atoms) are created & maintained by electric potentials in atoms, so too are our human relationships created and maintained by the desires or potentials created by divisions between our own inward and outward selves; essentially the differences between the desires of our hearts (intuition), the thoughts of our heads (beliefs) and the substance of our actions.

Bonding in atoms occurs primarily because of the octet rule. Atoms want to fill up their outer octet of electrons to obtain a stable ‘noble gas’ configuration. Thus just like people, atoms without this ‘complete’ energy configuration seek to bond in order to find wholeness. The atom/person feels something is missing and feels a desire to bond subconsciously. The ‘desire’ or likely-hood of an atom to bond has a lot to do with how close or far to the octet rule they are. This same polarization of valence electrons also largely dictates what types of bonds atoms can create or relationships atoms can have with other atoms. The same is true of people, for the same reasons. It is the relationship between our outer polarities or ‘desires’ which dictates who we are attracted to, and in what ways. There are various personality tests which attempt to aid us in understanding who we really are at any point, and to help us know who we may or may not currently be compatible with. (or what we need to change to become compatible) However, I believe all of these fall short in accurately categorizing the variability and uniqueness of all humans, and I believe that because of the holographic or fractal nature of our reality, categories based more closely on the microcosm of the periodic chart and nuclear bonding would far more accurately capture the full variability spectrum of human nature.

Periodic Table of the Elements

Before getting into the different types of chemical bonding, it may be helpful for the reader to reacquaint themselves with the periodic chart and how it is structured. Recall that apart from the metallics, atoms are placed in one of eight groups which correspond with the number of valence electrons. This is essentially the polarity of an atom relative to a noble gas. (The number eight is metaphysically important here, as our observable reality is structured like a diamond in a double tetrahedron configuration which tends to fractally divide into repeating sequences of seven.) So because of the octet rule, group ones like to bond with group sevens, group twos with group sixes and so on. There are literally millions of comparisons that could be made between the bonding characteristics of these different elements and those of people. Some elements bond easily, some only with difficulty. The nobles are ‘inert’ and completely balanced both within and without, it is these atoms which are used to buffer reactions. Like people some atoms have relative polarization’s of positive and others of negativity. We don’t call these atoms ‘good’ or ‘evil’, we simply observe their behavior and tendencies, and try to combine them in meaningful and useful ways. This is also how the noble therapist, historian or even holy-man judges; without cultural or religious labels, but instead with neutral or unpolarized wisdom.

Ionic Bonding relationships: occurs when the bond or relationship between atoms causes both atoms to polarize or become charged ions. In essence, in an ionic bonding situation, one atom is in dire ‘need’ of an electron and thus ‘steals’ the excess charge/electrons from another making both itself and its partner ionic or oppositely unbalanced/polarized. In these relationships one partner polarizes the other toward selfishness/unselfishness, and this potential difference creates the attraction which holds the relationship together. An example could be physical attraction. The beauty of one individual causes desire or charge in another. The desire/charge is created when one begins to believe they are not whole, complete and beautiful enough in and of themselves. This division of the divine “whole” unstabalizes the individual and creates a ‘need’ desire where they cannot feel whole and complete unless they possess the beauty of the other. When the beautiful one allows themselves to be ‘possessed’ by the one full of desire; a codependence is created and the beautiful one often gets to the point where they do not feel whole or complete unless they are desired or continually giving of themselves. This same situation plays out in any relationship where one side becomes ‘needy’ or negative/service-to-self and continually takes the excess charge of their partner; their partner continually allowing or enables them to do so because of excess positive polarization (not realizing their own actions are often the cause of the other’s neediness in the first place) Thus the ionic bond/relationship in codependence is created and sustained.

Covalent Bonding Relationships on the other hand, do not create ions or exist between ions. They exist between uncharged (non-ion) atoms with complementary charge/electron valence shells. In relationship terms both individuals are balanced and do not “need” the other. They are both internally balanced, however in relation to each-other or an inert gas atom they are polarized. The electrons or charge/desire in a covalent bond is shared in order to attain a balanced noble gas-like configuration. You might say this is a second stage relationship where individuals have learned to internally balance themselves without the aid of another to a point where bonding does not unbalance (ionize) them. Where polarization within the relationship is mutually shared and outward directed. And relationship which seeks to be outwardly serviceable must attain to this (metallic bond). However they are still not as balanced as a master (completely un-polarizable individual).

Inert Atoms/Noble Gases. A noble gas is the most stable and un-polarized on all the atoms on the periodic chart. They generally do not react with other atoms or molecules, and have a whole/complete outer valence shell. They are internally balanced (same number of protons & electrons) and externally balanced (full outer valence shell). They are often used as buffers to other reactions/relationships because they do not react (get pulled into the drama). Thus they can coexist with other molecules in substances, but do not bond to those molecules or substances. They are neither selfish nor selfless and yet they are both; neither masculine or feminine and yet both. They have both the ying and the yang in perfect balance, and thus can be all things to all people to aid in buffering the reactions of the more volatile individuals in life. However, as a disadvantage they can be loners, because they have no desire for relationship or drama. It takes great discipline for these individuals to become anything and in many cases they will not grow/progress unless they polarize and are thus motivated to become organic (forming an integral element of a whole; having systematic coordination of parts) which is the beginning and end of progression.

Ionic Bonding Relationships only form between ions of opposite internal polarity. That is, one must be polarized negative, the other positive, and through the give and take the net charge becomes neutral. The human relationship analog should be obvious. The defining attractive attributes of this relationship will be selfishness/selflessness in one attracting the opposite in the other. Because the give-and-take cancels out, the couple does not focus much on serving others either selflessly or selfishly. The net charge is zero. One need not suppose that in these types of relationships one is always the selfish one and vise-versa, although that may be generally the case, often the roles continually reverse given different situations; but it defines the general attractive principle. If the circumstances change, attraction ends and often so does the relationship.

Covalent bonds usually occur between atoms of near equal electronegativity or internal polarity. In relationship-terms this translates to a relationship between individuals of equal service orientation (service to self/selfish & service to others/selfless) who join together for a common cause
Electrons or charge in a covalent bond is often shared unequally, resulting in a molecule which is polarized. That is, unlike with ionic bonds, the molecule/relationship has a net charge of positivity or negativity. This means relationships with this type of bond, are often motivated with a desire to serve others or themselves as a team. These relationships give/take not only from/to each-other, but to/from others. That is, they are extroverts and give selfish or selfless service outwardly.

Finish this later. Talk a little more about the adept with quotes talking about the balancing process. The need for polarization to transition past step/density three, The role which unconditional love plays in the reversal of polarization and beginning of balancing… ect…

Reblogged Excerpt  (from www.selfgrowth.com)
We need to look at human behavior and why we do the things that we do. All of us are made up of atoms. Atoms behave in a certain way and their behavior is a good model to use to understand human behavior.
There are 3 atomic bonds: Ionic bonds, Covalent bonds and Metallic bonds.
The Ionic bond is a ‘give and take’ relationship between two atoms. Electrons are transferred from one atom to the other.
The Covalent bond is a ‘sharing’ relationship. Instead of one atom losing an electron and the other gaining an electron, these atoms share one or more electrons. Sometimes the sharing is equal and other times the sharing is unequal.
The Metallic bond has the characteristics of both Ionic and Covalent bonds. It ‘shares’ and ‘gives and takes’.
An example of the Ionic bond can be found in the bonding of sodium and chloride. Sodium has an extra electron, and chloride only has 7 electrons in the outer orbit. When the extra electron of sodium is given to chloride, chloride then becomes stable and sodium gets rid of the extra electron.
The sodium after it gives up its electron, becomes positive because it now has more protons than electrons. Chloride now becomes negative because it has more electrons than protons. The sodium and chloride ions are now stable and the compound they create is called Salt.
This Ionic bond I am going to call ‘The Give-Take Relationship’. Each of these atoms has found another atom that can give it what it wants and needs. By giving, they also receive.
With a Covalent bonding, atoms are co-dependent. An example of this is with the hydrogen atom. A hydrogen atom only has 1 electron, and so is unable to give up an electron. When 2 hydrogen atoms unite, they share the 2 electrons and this makes them both stable.
This is the same as when two people who need the same thing come together. They rely upon each other to remain stable. This type of relationship is not strong because neither person can be stable without the other. These relationships have what you could call a ‘low boiling’ point and break easily. I am going to call this bond ‘The Sharing Relationship’.
In a Metallic bond there is both a sharing and a give and take of electrons. This is a very strong type of bond, and metals have a very high boiling point, so hence the name Metallic bond.
The outer electrons of metal are not bound closely. When 2 metal atoms come together the electrons can move freely amongst the nuclei within the crystal. They slip over each other, but stay bonded to each other by the attractive forces that exist. Within in this bond there is a sharing of the electrons and also giving and taking. This bond has a flexibility not found in any other bond.
An example of this bond is a ‘stable marriage’, where both people have the ability to not only share with each other, but they also give and take from the other person. They are both independent in this relationship, through the give and take process, and yet also create a dependence upon each other by sharing what each has.
The bond becomes stronger as time goes on because they have the flexibility to move about freely within the relationship, trusting each other not to bond (cheat) with anyone else. Neither person in this relationship wants to break the bond because not only are they filling the other persons void, but their voids are being fulfilled also.
I am going to call this metallic bond ‘The Fulfilling Relationship’.
Behavior becomes erratic or unstable when all of our voids are not met. When 2 atoms come together and aren’t able to fill each others voids, the created compound is known as a ‘Radical’. Just as with human relationships, we become radical or rebellious to others and ourselves when our needs aren’t met.
Why do some people eat food that isn’t healthy? Or smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, do drugs or anything else that is unhealthy? It is simply that for many it is better to fill a void with something, than with nothing at all.
I think that we suffer in relationships because we are confused about what type of relationship we are in. You need to determine what your relationship is and then ask yourself a few questions. What do you give and what do you take from this relationship? What type of relationship does the other person think you have? If there is a problem with the relationship, can it be corrected? Or maybe you need to be separated from the relationship? This is true not just for a lover’s relationship, but it also holds true for relationships you have with friends, family, your children, co-workers, etc.
